On September 2nd, Amy Slaton of TLC’s 1,000-Lb. Sisters was involved in a shocking Labor Day arrest in Crockett County, Tennessee. This sounds unbelievable, but 36-year-old Amy was allegedly involved in an incident where a camel bit a “guest” visiting a zoo in Alamo, Tennessee, west of Nashville.
People Magazine was among the first national outlets to break this disturbing story. Police reports indicate that Amy has been charged with “child endangerment” and the possession of substances.

Local affiliate WKRN News 2 also covered this story in a breaking news alert on September 3rd. They referred to the “multiple charges” that Amy Slaton-Halterman will face in a court of law after she got “arrested at a drive-thru zoo in West Tennessee.”
People confirmed that law enforcement from the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department responded to “calls of a guest reportedly being bitten by a camel at Tennessee Safari Park.” When Crockett County deputies arrived on the scene, they were “immediately overtaken by suspicious odors” coming from the vehicle involved in the incident. Amy was a passenger, and a man named Brian Scott Lovvorn was also involved and arrested with her.
Amy’s Children Were Allegedly Present at the Arrest
People quoted a Facebook post from the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department listing the charges as “illegal possession of schedule I, illegal possession of schedule IV, and two counts of child endangerment.” Amy and Brian were “booked in the Crockett County Jail,” but the Sheriff set the record straight on what this all means.
The Sheriff’s Facebook post explained that the “charges and allegations” Amy and Brian face “are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence.” They are “presumed innocent… until proven guilty… through due process of law.”
Us Weekly reported on September 3rd that the Sheriff’s Facebook post didn’t mention whether Amy’s kids, 4-year-old Gage and 2-year-old Glenn, were in the vehicle. However, some outlets are connecting the dots and alleging that Amy’s kids were present, and that accounts for the two charges of child endangerment.
The US Deputy Editor of Hello! Magazine online reported that Amy was with her “boyfriend, Brian.” They also alleged that Amy was the “guest” at the zoo who was “bitten by a camel.”
Media outlets quickly uploaded Amy and Brian’s mugshots. Hello! described Amy as “grimacing for the camera wearing [an orange] prison jumpsuit.”
E! News updated this story mid-morning on Tuesday. They confirmed that the Sheriff’s social media post didn’t “supply additional details on the alleged camel bite.” Still, E! News mentioned that the post did have a descriptive headline: “FROM FEEDING A CAMEL TO THE SLAMMER,” which is a pretty big clue about what Amy could have allegedly done from inside her vehicle to set this chain of events off.
Amy Publicly Bashed Her Previous Boyfriends
There isn’t yet much to report about who this Brian guy is, either. However, E! News has extensively reported on Amy’s dating history after her 2023 divorce from Michael Halterman.
In March 2024, E! News reported that Amy broke up with another boyfriend, who was only referred to as “Kevin.” Sadly, Amy began “posting a series of cryptic quotes” on social media about her love life, and E! News claimed that Amy “slammed her boyfriend Kevin for only dating her because he ‘wanted fame.’”
On March 11th, Amy also spilled some tea in a TikTok video, revealing she was suffering from “a dash of low self-esteem.” In the video, Amy is seen trying on a black strapless party dress in a fitting room. She’s really putting herself out there, and her fans responded with love and positive vibes for the reality TV star.
Amy seemed grateful for the well wishes, commenting on one post, “I love y’all.” Then, she got real.
Amy wrote that it had been a “ruff few days.” She attacked Kevin online. Amy also wrote that she’d decided not to cry over “his loser a**.”
E! News reported that Amy was “first linked” to Kevin in February 2024, but their relationship was short-lived. E! News claimed that Amy “first suggested she may be single again on March 7.”
Amy revealed on TikTok that “she was going through a difficult time.” She talked about people who mistakenly figured she didn’t “hurt” because she always kept “going.” Amy set the record straight, writing, “Let me be clear… I hurt AND keep going.”
Amy Focused on Her Children after Michael
She also revealed another side of this dating disaster. Amy explained on TikTok that “life is already hard.” That’s why she didn’t “want to be around anyone who makes it worse.”
Unfortunately, Amy has been involved with a couple of guys like this. You have to wonder if Brian is just another “loser” boyfriend to add to the pile.
E! News also described the “important lesson” that Amy claimed she’d learned after her divorce from Michael. It might sound like personal growth, but is Amy really practicing what she preached?

On February 25th, Amy uploaded a TikTok video while still involved with Kevin. She said that any new suitor in her life had to “meet my kids’ daddy first and build that bond.” Amy made the shocking claim that Kevin would meet her kids “maybe in a year.”
Amy had previously revealed that Kevin has three kids. She explained, “I’m not meeting his kids, and he ain’t meeting my kids for almost a year.”
Since this relationship appeared to barely last a month, Kevin must not have met Gage and Glenn. But what about Brian and the unnamed kids in the car during that arrest at Tennessee Safari Park?
Amy Quickly Moved on from Michael
Last December, E! News reported that Amy had detailed the “sparks” she felt in a “new romance” after her divorce, but they weren’t talking about Kevin in this exclusive. E! News revealed that Amy had gotten involved with a guy named Tony Rodgers, another short-lived relationship. Shockingly, Amy confessed “why she knew she had to dive into a relationship with Tony… following her breakup with Michael.”
Amy had gone “social media official” with Tony only one month before. She told E! News exclusively that “the sparks just flew” with him, and she had to “go for it,” even though she wasn’t sure if it was the “right time.” Turns out it wasn’t.
E! News confirmed that Amy went public with her “new relationship [just] eight months” after Michael filed for divorce. Amy and Michael were married for four years, and she revealed more of her sad story to E!.
Amy admitted she didn’t “really know what the final breaking point was,” but she described her marriage as “a struggle for a while.” She also claimed, “The love wasn’t there like it used to be.”
Amy seemed to be putting her kids first then. She told E!, “Things just got harder,” and she “knew things had to change” for them.
Amy Is Receiving Mental Health Treatment
E! News reported on Amy’s divorce from Michael in March 2023. They’d been married since March 2019, and their youngest son was only nine months old when Michael filed to end the marriage at “Union County courthouse.”
E! News wrote that Amy and Michael’s relationship began “when they were kids.” She had revealed to The Sun that she met Michael when she was eight years old, and she alleged that they “stopped dating” when Michael “turned 18.”
However, Amy and Michael’s relationship eventually turned romantic again. She told The Sun that he loved and supported her, and added that Michael didn’t care how much she weighed or how much weight she lost.
After her sons were born, Amy also “opened up to E! News” about the good and not-so-good parts of having “two kids under the age of 2.” For Amy, the “best part” was watching Gage and Glen interacting with each other and “[getting] to know each other.”
The “worst part” might sound familiar to many parents with kids close in age. Amy revealed that being “home alone with the two of them” could get bad when her boys both started “crying at the same time.” She added, “I don’t know which one to give my attention to first.”
People Magazine published an “exclusive” with Amy in December 2023, where she revealed shocking details about her mental health and “bipolar disorder diagnosis.” Even though Amy had lost “176 lbs,” she claimed to be suffering “PTSD” from her divorce.
Amy went to therapy and said, “It’s a relief to know that I’m not crazy.” Hopefully, Amy’s mental health will get back on track following this bizarre arrest.
