It’s getting more popular for music superstars like Beyonce to do crossovers into other genres. Post Malone is officially “going country,” and Jelly Roll is speaking out about it.
Taste of Country published an exclusive on June 6th. Taste of Country’s Evan Paul wrote, “Country music is one of the hottest genres,” and “it’s no surprise” that other artists “are wanting a bite of the action.” Evan mentioned Post Malone and added that he’d recently spoken to Jelly Roll “and got his take on Posty diving into the genre.”
Jelly Roll and Evan did a shocking interview for Taste of Country Nights On Demand. One of the topics of conversation was Post Malone’s country crossover.
Evan thought it was natural to ask Jelly Roll about this since he described Jelly Roll as a “rapper/singer before busting the doors of country music down.” That might be true, but it doesn’t necessarily mean Jelly Roll is a fan of Post Malone stepping into country music. Evan warned readers about this when he wrote that Jelly Roll “unloaded the tea” when asked about “Posty.”
Jelly Roll discussed whether “Post… is true to country music.” Then Jelly Roll brought up an interview that Post Malone did
Jelly Roll said he heard Post Malone say in that interview, “10 years from now, I’m going country.” It hasn’t quite been ten years, so does Jelly Roll have a problem with it?
The Taste of Country article confirmed a couple of surprising things. Not only does Jelly Roll love Post Malone, but Jelly Roll also threw shade at big-time country stars during his interview with Evan.
Post Malone Has a Heart of Country Music
When it comes to Post Malone “busting the doors of country music down,” Jelly Roll truly believes that country music is in Post’s “heart.” He also gave Evan proof.
Jelly Roll said, “We all forget that Post Malone broke on YouTube singing Bob Dylan songs.” Then, Jelly Roll revealed a personal connection.
He told Evan that Post is “just making it to where his heart is.” He confessed, “I’ve hung out with that guy, he’s one of the best dudes on Earth.” Jelly Roll also described Post as “the sweetest soul.”
Before you think that Jelly Roll and Evan’s conversation about Post and country music was all positive and glowing, Evan dropped a bombshell about Jelly Roll throwing shade at other country music superstars. Jelly Roll made this diss during his conversation about Post Malone. He told Evan that Post “knows more about country music than guys in this town that have 10 number ones.”
Evan sounded shocked by Jelly Roll’s diss, especially since Jelly Roll is loved by everyone else in country music. He’s not about the negativity. Still, Jelly Roll had a point to make.
Evan wrote that Jelly Roll even “doubled down” on the shocking diss he made. You won’t believe what else Jelly Roll said. He added that some “guys in this town” with “10 number ones on country radio” have nothing on Post Malone’s knowledge of country music.
Jelly Roll claimed that if you put these guys “with Post Malone in a room together, right now,” Post would know more about one country song after the other. He shockingly told Evan, “I’d say seven artists that have had 10 number ones in this town” aren’t half the country artist that Post Malone will probably be.
Jelly Roll Teased a Post Malone Collab
If you’re wondering who Jelly Roll was talking about, he already knew you were. Shockingly, he asked Evan, “Want me to name a couple?”
Evan wrote, “I eagerly said ‘yeah,’” even though Evan said he knew that Jelly Roll wouldn’t name names. He wrote, “Jelly Roll belly-laughed,” and told Evan, “Just kidding.”
Evan ended the article with a question. Would country music ever see a “Jelly Roll and Post Malone collaboration?” He answered, “Only time will tell.”
Audacy also reported on June 6th that Jelly Roll had appeared on Katie and Company’s Superstar Power Hour. The article said that Jelly Roll had weighed in on “Post Malone’s Country Era.”
Once again, Jelly Roll complimented Post’s crossover in country music, saying, “His heart is here,” and “He’s been wanting to do this forever.” Then, Jelly Roll told Katie Neal something else.
He feels that Post’s crossover wasn’t because “Country is hot right now.” Jelly Roll mentioned what he’d also told Evan, which is Post has been “talking about” doing country music “in interviews forever.”
Jelly Roll even made a shocking prediction about Post’s future in music. He told Katie, “I think they’re going to have a struggle to get [Post] to do a record that’s not Country again.”
Post Malone Is “the Nicest Guy in Country Music”
The Audacy article did try to create some drama when they wrote that Jelly Roll “recognizes Posty creates more of a fight for him on the charts.” However, during his interview with Katie, Jelly Roll didn’t seem too concerned about competing with Post. Shockingly, Jelly Roll even joked about Post stealing Jelly Roll’s current title as “the nicest guy in Country music.”
Jelly Roll told Katie, “I thought I was one of the nicest guys in Country music.” Then he said, “I met Luke Bryan, and I was like, I’m an a**.” But after he met Post, Jelly Roll thought, “I’m just plain rude!”
Of course, he was just joking. But, he got more serious with Katie when he dropped details about his upcoming music.
He told Katie, “I think we’ll be coming out [with new music] around fall.” Audacy wrote that Jelly Roll revealed more about his “new project” that is between “85-95% done.”
Jelly Roll admitted that writing his new music was “cool” because he’s “in a different headspace” now. He explained that for most of his life, it felt like he was going through extreme darkness and even “hopelessness.” Although he still writes from that dark place, he’s now thinking more about how his music can help people out of the darkness.
Jelly Roll also showed us where his true heart is in country music when he revealed to Katie, “I didn’t write any song on this [new] album to try to be a hit.” Jelly Roll added, “I wrote every song to be impactful.”
Post Announced His Genre Shift on Twitch
Taste of Country knew as far back as November 2023 that Post Malone’s country record was “coming.” They wrote, “Post Malone has confirmed his country album is in the works,” and he picked an interesting time to drop that bombshell.
Taste of Country reported that Post did a “Twitch live stream on his channel.” “The rapper was asked in the chat a few times about his venture” into country music.

Post Malone was juggling live gaming with fan questions on the live stream, and Taste of Country wrote that he made his big reveal “in between rounds of playing the game Apex Legends.”
Post confirmed, “Country record is coming,” and then he shared a tidbit about his new music. He confessed during the live stream, “I keep singing a song that we made while I was in Nashville… but it’s not out” yet.
Post Malone Has Been Recording in Nashville
Taste of Country also reported that Post Malone “is working on two albums at the moment.” They didn’t get any confirmation “if both of the projects are country-related,” but Post Malone did drop one more hint.
On his livestream, Post said, “We made such sick music down in Nashville.” He added, “It was… so much fun.”
Taste of Country put two-and-two together last November. They wrote, “This means that the photos showing [Post] Malone in [the] studio with artists including Morgan Wallen, Ernest, and Brad Paisley” must be “related to his forthcoming country project.”
If you haven’t seen these photos from Post’s Nashville recording session, Taste of Country explained, “the photos started popping up on social media” just days before Post performed at last year’s CMAs with Morgan and HARDY.
As Taste of Country reported, Post is already a part of country music. He appeared on HARDY’s recent release, Hixtape Vol. 3: Difftape, a tribute album released this past March in honor of the late, great Joe Diffie.
Taste of Country wrote that Post “has already released” the duet of “Pickup Man” with Joe following Joe’s passing. Post’s “new version” of Joe’s hit song entered the country music charts on November 18, 2023, debuting at No. 56.
