Just like Diddy’s biological children, his adopted son Quincy Brown is reportedly going through a difficult time because of everything going on with his dad. A source told Entertainment Tonight that all of the siblings were in a state of shock and crisis after Diddy was arrested and hit with a federal indictment. Quincy joined his brothers and sisters in court where their father pleaded not guilty on all the charges against him.
The New York Post reported that when Diddy heard that would be held without bail, he turned to look at Quincy and his other kids and put his hand on his heart. But this isn’t the first time that Quincy has had to deal with father issues. Because though he’s claimed to have had a good relationship with Diddy, the one he has with his biological father, singer Al B. Sure, hasn’t always been smooth.
Quincy’s Father Issues
Quincy is related to three of Diddy’s children through his mom Kim Porter, who tragically passed away in 2018. According to PEOPLE, she and Diddy began dating when Quincy was just three years old. When the couple first separated in 1999, Diddy reportedly remained a father figure for him.
But while Quincy’s relationship with Diddy grew stronger over the years, the one he had with Al was basically non-existent according to him. And in 2009, he let the whole world know exactly how he felt about that.
A Letter To His Father
Quincy wrote an open letter to his biological dad, titled- A Letter To My Father. And he didn’t hold anything back.He started by saying that he grew up without his father, he watched other kids enjoy the love of theirs, and he searched for a way to come to terms with his situation.
Quincy went on to say that Diddy had been a father figure for him for as long as he could remember, and that he was the person that he looked up to and appreciated. He admitted that he was the one who helped mold him into the person he’d become, and he would always try to live up to Diddy’s expectations.
According to Quincy, his adoptive father had always been supportive of him and he would forever love and respect him. As for Al, he said that being called his spitting image was all he had taken from him. Throughout his life, he’d been left to wonder where his biological dad was, what he was doing and if he ever thought about his son.
Al B. Sure’s Reaction
BET reported that in an interview with Essence magazine, the singer claimed that he was a human being, So of course hearing about any family member being disappointed with him was devastating. He went on to add that he felt like it was his job to fix it.
But fifteen years later, things don’t stand the same between the father and son. It’s become clear that they are more involved in each other’s lives. In fact, not long after Diddy’s homes were raided in March 2024, Al made a reference to his son’s letter in a public post he left for him on Instagram.
Heartfelt Plea
A report by the Jasmine Brand revealed that he uploaded a throwback photo of him and Quincy, and then captioned it:
“#LettertoMySon! Come Home. The door is wide open. You’re safe here son! I Love you, Popz, Your Biological.”
Though it’s unclear if Quincy ever took him up on his offer, he recently opened up about how he and Al had repaired their relationship.
It was the article by BET which revealed that Quincy spoke about how things were between him and his biological dad while on an episode of the podcast Lip Service. The hostess, Angela Yee, asked her guest about the open letter he’d famously written to Al all those years ago, and he shared the surprising ways in which things had changed since then.
Where They Stand Now
He said that Al tended to try to do the “dad thing” a lot, but he personally didn’t feel like that was where they were at in life. Quincy explained that they were more like friends now. They’d go do things together, and it was like they were really getting to know each other as two grown men. Ironically, the interview came on the same day that the news broke that Diddy had been arrested.
A report by The Jasmine Brand confirmed the news of the father-son reconciliation by claiming that their sources had said the two had grown a lot closer. The insiders alleged that Al and Quincy were definitely talking more and making up for lost time. They were even photographed together at the White House for a summer event they attended.
However, their repaired relationship doesn’t necessarily mean that there isn’t any friction between them.There is still something that they both feel pretty differently about. And it has something to do with Quincy’s mom, Kim.
Kim Porter’s Passing
Ever since she passed away, Al has been vocal about how suspicious he found it that her life came to an end so suddenly. A Los Angeles County medical examiner said that it happened because of pneumonia per The Hollywood Reporter. But Al has openly disagreed with that verdict. According to Atlanta Black Star, he stated on his Instagram that he knew very well that Kim didn’t just check out all of a sudden because of a treatable illness.
Vibe reported that in his most recent Instagram posts, Al has doubled down and is calling for an investigation into her passing. Over three lengthy messages, he alleged that the reason for the untimely loss of his ex was because she had planned to write a memoir which would’ve exposed Diddy. Though he is careful never to mention the Hip Hop mogul by name.
He claimed that the original book notes were stolen immediately after she was gone, by publicists and conspirators who’d been ordered to get rid of the supposed evidence. Though he supposedly tried to get the police involved before, he said that he felt he was ignored, ridiculed and medically silenced to cover up the alleged crimes.
He said that there was a costly campaign to silence and physically harm him from exposing any secrets.Al summarized his lengthy claims by saying that in a nutshell, Kim was allegedly taken from this world because she was set on course to accomplish what Cassie Ventura did. Which was of course a reference to the lawsuit she brought against Diddy back in November 2023, where listed the many horrific allegations against him.
Diddy’s Children Speak Out
E! News reported that all of Kim’s children released a joint statement in September 2025 to say that they wanted the speculation about their mom’s passing to stop. They explained that while it’d been incredibly difficult to reconcile how Kim could be taken from them too soon, the cause of her passing had already been determined.
They went on to insist that there was no foul play, and they were deeply saddened that the world had made a spectacle of what was the most tragic event of their lives. The siblings finished by writing that their mother should be remembered for the beautiful, strong, kind and loving woman she was. And her memory should not be tainted by horrific conspiracy theories.
As he waits for his trail, Diddy has reportedly had very little communication with Quincy or any of his other children. But one of PEOPLE’s insiders recently claimed that the rapper had been able to speak briefly to family members and his children via phone. He has three minor children, and two of them, Kim’s twin daughters Jessi and D’Lila, have no living parent to take care of them while he’s behind bars.
