Why Shemar Moore Won’t Marry His Baby Mama Jesiree 

Marriage isn’t for everyone, and Shemar Moore made that loud and clear in a recent interview.

After becoming a father for the first time at the age of 53, people assumed that it was something that he would at least consider.

But it turns out that there are no wedding bells on the horizon for him.

And wait until you hear why he won’t be putting a ring on his baby mama’s finger, because it’s seriously wild.

Shemar welcomed his daughter with Jesiree Dizon in 2023. 

They named her Frankie.

The couple had been dating for about three years before she came along. 

Obviously, a lot of couples traditionally get married before they have a child together, but that’s changed over the years. 

There are a few different reasons why people are choosing to have babies and stay unmarried, but it seems like some are more acceptable than others.

Shemar gave his reasons in an interview with PEOPLE.

Though he called Jesiree his ‘partner in crime’, he told the outlet that marriage just wasn’t in the cards for him.

He explained that he didn’t have a good role model for marriage in his life when he was growing up. 

His parents weren’t a good representation of a happy marriage, and he claimed that nobody in his life was.

Then he talked about another issue he had with the concept of tying the knot.

Apparently, when he was younger he spoke to his mom about getting a prenup.

He told her that he felt like if two people were in love and they each thought that the other was the most amazing person in the world, then signing a prenup would suggest that they didn’t trust each other.

He went on to say: “It’s just like tomorrow’s not guaranteed, but Jesiree, I’ll give you everything I got today and tomorrow.”

I mean, to me, that sounds like the kind of vow that you would say to someone at a wedding. 

But I guess for Shemar, getting married is just a step too far commitment-wise. 

Shemar Vows To Keep Jesiree And Children Safe 

He also talked about how his girlfriend was now the mother of his daughter, and how she was a great mama to Frankie, and that he would try to be a good dad until the end of his life.

Shemar did tell PEOPLE that as far as their relationship went, he wanted to give Jesiree the best life he could.

He said: “Not just material stuff. Just keep her safe.”

The S.W.A.T actor has reportedly promised that he would take care of Jesiree’s other two children from her previous relationships, too.

He said that both the fathers of her other kids were still in their lives, and he didn’t want to step on any toes, but he vowed that he would keep them both safe, too.

Fans Call Out Shemar For Not Wanting To Get Married

So, how did the internet react to Shemar’s explanation about why he didn’t have any plans to walk down the aisle?

Well, it’s safe to say that it was a pretty mixed reaction. 

While some people respected that it was his choice, others called him out for having what they considered to be a weak excuse. 

When The Shade Room shared a post about his statement, there were lots of online users who were quick to flood the comments section with their opinions.

One Instagram user wrote that marriage wasn’t for everyone, but his excuse wasn’t great.

Another person argued that Shemar most likely didn’t have an example of how to be a millionaire in his life either, but he figured that out.

A third user told him that he should BE the role model and asked what his excuse had to do with marrying someone he wanted to be with.

Someone else shared the theory that Shemar didn’t consider Jesiree to be ‘the one’ and added that men just made up excuses when they didn’t REALLY want their partners.

But is that true? 

Some Fans Support Shemar Moore’s Marriage Decision

Just because he doesn’t want to marry the mother of his child, does that really mean that he doesn’t love her enough?

Not everyone agreed with this take.

An article by Lainey Gossip made the argument that Shemar wanting to stay single wasn’t really a bad thing.

The writer agreed with him that marriage “isn’t the only kind of commitment that supports healthy families.”

She pointed out that sometimes unhealthy and unhappy marriages can be worse for both the children and the parents’ mental health. 

The Lainey Gossip writer suggested that some people were angry with Shemar’s decision because of a common situation that happens with other famous men.

Celebrities like Nick Cannon, Future, and Cam Newton are known for having lots of kids with many different baby mamas, and they’re being called out for it by the public.

But the writer claimed that Shemar was different because even when he was dating around a lot, he never carelessly had children with any of those women. 

She alleged that though he may have wanted to be a father when he was younger, he held off until he felt ready to commit to someone, even if that commitment wasn’t with a diamond ring.

A-List Celebrities Shemar Moore Has Dated

In an interview with PEOPLE, Shemar looked back at his romantic life and recognized that he used to be known for the famous women that he went out with.

Shemar told the outlet that he “had a pretty good entrance into Hollywood.”

In the 1990s, he dated women like Toni Braxton and Halle Berry, which earned him a reputation. 

He shared that he became more popular as ‘that guy’ than he did as an actor.

Shemar said: “I had a good time being single… I did it right – I was always honest.”

After many years of playing the field, Shemar eventually decided to settle down with one woman and start a family. 

But what changed?

How Shemar Moore’s Mother Died

Well, it reportedly had a lot to do with his mother.

Shemar and his mom Marilyn Wilson-Moore were very close.

Sadly, she passed away in 2020 because of multiple sclerosis and a heart condition.

While speaking to PEOPLE, Shemar revealed that his mother’s passing was the toughest time in his career as well as the toughest time in his life.

He also said that when he lost her, he felt like he’d messed up.

Though becoming a father was never really a priority in his life, being a grandmother was apparently something that Marilyn had always hoped for.

Her son confessed that he felt selfish for some of the choices he’d made in his life.

He explained that he chased his career so hard because he was so determined not to fail. But in that pursuit of not failing, he hadn’t thought about what he was sacrificing or losing.

Shemar shared: “I made it all about me. I made it all about my career. I made it all about chasing girls and living my life and kicking with my homies.”

The actor admitted that he felt guilty that he didn’t fulfill his mom’s dream of becoming a grandmother while she was still alive.

He went on to say that losing his mom made him want to be the best version of himself, be the best partner, and be the best dad that he never had for Frankie.

Shemar Said, ‘I Just Wasn’t Ready For That Settled Down, Family Thing’

The interesting thing is that Shemar reportedly did have his chance to settle down with Jesiree a long time ago, but it was during the time that he wasn’t prepared to give up his bachelor life.

Hello magazine reported that when he appeared on an episode of The Talk in 2023, Shemar revealed that he and Jesiree had dated 15 years earlier, and that it was wonderful.

He added: “I just wasn’t ready for that settled down, family thing. I got a little spooked.“

After he lost his mother, he got back in touch with Jesiree, and they’ve been together ever since.
