Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, was in the middle of planning her wedding when everything suddenly came to a crashing halt.
Cori Broadus Suffers Stroke At 24
She found herself being whisked off to hospital after suffering a severe stroke in January 2024.
She was only 24 years old at the time.
Cori had to spend a week in a hospital bed.
And even after getting out, she still had a long road to recovery ahead of her.
But luckily, she had her dad by her side the whole time.
In an interview that the father-daughter duo did for US Weekly, the pair revealed the hardship that they went through during that challenging time.
Snoop Dogg And Cori’s Close Bond
And Cori was an open book when it came to talking about how Snoop Dogg went above and beyond for her while she was on her healing journey.
The two have reportedly always had a very close bond.
Cori is Snoop Dogg’s only daughter.
He shares two sons with her mother, Shante Broadus, and also has a son that he had with another woman.
Cori told US Weekly that they had a beautiful relationship.
She was the princess.
She claimed that the love her dad had for her was different from the kind of love he had for her brothers.
She explained that the love a father has for their daughter has to be softer, more loving, caring, sensitive, and fragile.
Cori Broadus’ Lupus Diagnosis
She also revealed that it was her illness that brought them closer.
When Cori was just six years old, she was diagnosed with lupus.
According to Mayo Clinic, lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that happens when a body’s immune system attacks its own organs and tissues.
It can cause inflammation and pain in different parts of the body.
Cori explained that when she was young, she couldn’t understand why she was the only one who was sick all the time, and everyone else in her family was okay.
As a result, she felt like an outcast.
But that was something that she and her dad bonded over.
Snoop Said, ‘Cori, You Have A Story, You Have A Purpose …’
He would help her look at things from a different perspective.
He would tell her: “Cori, you have a story, you have a purpose. God doesn’t put people through things that they know they can’t handle.”
And just like Snoop Dogg was there for her when she was growing up with her health issues, he was also there for her when she had the stroke.
According to Cori, he would call her every day after she had the health scare.
She said that it was a little over the top, but at the same time, she loved it, because she knew that she was his baby girl and that he was worried about her.
She also theorized that his extra attention had something to do with him getting older, too, and realizing that family is everything.
Snoop Dogg chimed in to say that he just wanted to let her know that he was there for her.
He and Shante made sure that she had the best medical care possible, but most importantly, he said that it was about letting her know that they were by her side no matter what.
It was hard for him to think about that difficult time, though.
He said that he didn’t ‘want to go back to that moment.’
When asked if the stroke changed their relationship with each other, Snoop Dogg shared that his family had dealt with a lot of loss on top of Cori being sick, which reminded them all to live every day like it was their last, and to lead with love.
Cori’s opinion was that him seeing her in that state and not knowing if she was going to be okay brought them even closer.
Like Father, Like Daughter
The father and daughter reportedly have a lot in common.
So much so that Cori even says that he is her twin.
She explained that they were both business-minded.
She stated that she wasn’t shy, and if she wanted something, she’d do whatever it took.
Snoop Dogg added that there were a lot of other similarities between them.
According to him, they ate the same way and moved the same way.
They were also similar in their work ethic, and they were both driven.
They would also always be moved to help others and put other people before themselves.
Snoop Dogg Said, ‘Cori Is A Voice For Other Girls …’
According to him, he felt that his daughter was put in that position to be a voice for other young women going through something similar.
Which was why they decided to tell their story through a show for the E! Network.
Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori & Wayne’s Story is a three-part docuseries which follows Cori and her fiance, Wayne Deuce, as they get ready for their wedding and deal with the various challenges that pop up along the way.
Including, of course, Cori’s serious health struggle that she had at the beginning of 2024.
Snoop Dogg proudly shared that his daughter was very open in showing her truth.
He went on to explain that most people wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing their experiences, but she wanted to help people by showing that they were not alone.
He said: “Cori is a voice for other girls, young women of color, other families going through the same struggles.”
Snoop Dogg Reveals How Daughter’s Health Issues Affected Him And Family
Snoop Dogg also pointed out that it doesn’t matter how much money a person has, or how famous they are – what happened to his daughter could happen to anyone.
When he was asked by US Weekly how Cori’s stroke affected his family as a whole, the rapper claimed that it put things into perspective.
He revealed that it also reminded them that they needed to take care of their health and listen to their bodies.
Cori agreed with him and added that it made her appreciate life.
Cori Broadus Reveals Warning Signs Of Stroke
According to PEOPLE, Cori has used her experience to encourage her followers to listen to their bodies.
She shared in an Instagram Story that just before her stroke, she experienced a number of warning symptoms.
These were things like blurry vision, nausea, fatigue, and really bad headache pain that she felt on the right side of her head.
Cori also revealed that her blood pressure was really high before she had her stroke.
She said that she’d been trying to keep track of it by logging her levels every day.
She added that she was glad that she was still around and able to tell her story.
Cori Broadus Takes Holistic Therapy Approach
Before she had the stroke, Cori reportedly wasn’t taking any of her lupus medication.
According to Women’s Health, she decided to stop taking the meds in 2023 and started a more holistic therapy approach, with natural things like teas and supplements.
Then, she gave up on everything altogether.
Having lupus meant that she was more likely to develop blood clots, which reportedly could’ve been one of the things that led to the stroke.
Since leaving the hospital, Cori has been back on her medication, and she’s prioritized her health by eating a more balanced diet.
She told the outlet: “I love dairy. I love cheese, fries, hot wings with ranch. But I tell myself, ‘You can have those things, Cori, but you can’t have it every day.’”
She said that she tried to have more nutritional options like fruit, nuts, and water.
Another thing she’d been working on was her mental health and changing her mindset.
Cori explained that she was trying to be content with where she was at.
She said that it was natural to question things when feeling down, and ask questions like ‘Why me? Why is this happening? Why do I have to do this?’
But she said that she hoped that it helped others to hear how she overcame her struggle and how she was still standing strong and tall.
Snoop Dogg’s Daughter Cori Is Pregnant
In December 2024, TODAY reported that Snoop Dogg’s daughter had some exciting news to share with the world.
She announced that she and Wayne were expecting a baby.
She revealed that her mom and dad were really excited that they were going to be grandparents again.
Wayne posted a picture of Cori and her pregnant belly on Instagram, and captioned it by saying: “Girl dad… Can’t wait to meet you baby girl.”
Cori shared that she found out about the pregnancy on October 28.
She also posted a photo of a sonogram to her Stories, and revealed that the baby had a strong heartbeat.
