Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka have allegedly split up after seven years together. According to Page Six, their breakup was caused by Bryan’s desire to start a family of his own.
Just hours after reports emerged that the couple had gone their separate ways, a source talked to the outlet about it. The insider alleged that the 14-year age gap between the partners played a part in the breakup, as it meant that Mariah and Bryan wanted different things.
Bryan Reportedly Wants to Have Kids
The source told Page Six that Bryan “wants to have a family. That’s not where she is at.” Mariah already shares 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-husband Nick Cannon. Word began spreading that the singer and her partner had split up as Mariah started her Merry Christmas One and All tour in November. It was noticed that Bryan, a backup dancer, had not made an appearance at Mariah’s shows. Fans commented on Bryan’s absence at Mariah’s concert at the Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California.

For over a decade, Bryan had been seen dancing at Mariah’s shows. According to The Daily Mail, some fans remarked that Mariah “looked downbeat” at the show, and complained about her alleged “low energy performance.”
The Daily Mail reported that Mariah is also currently spending the holiday season in Aspen without Bryan. In the past, the 40 year old would usually accompany Mariah on her trips, according to a source who talked to PEOPLE.

The couple began dating in 2016, and this is allegedly the first time they have not traveled together during the Christmas holidays. They were last seen together in March this year while celebrating Mariah’s 54th birthday. At that time, Bryan posted a picture of himself and Mariah on his Instagram. In the caption, he wrote, “This is one of my favorite pictures. Ever. Happy Anniversary to my Beautiful Queen. 3/27”.
Fans Noticed Bryan’s Absence From Mariah’s Instagram Profile
However, concerns about the couple breaking up intensified as it was noticed that Bryan had not been featured on Mariah’s Instagram profile since December last year. The Daily Mail reported that the “Fantasy” singer’s last post which included Bryan is allegedly from December 26, 2022. In the post, Bryan and Mariah posed cheek to cheek to celebrate Boxing Day.
The couple first met in the mid 2000s. Bryan worked as one of Mariah’s backup dancers during her “Adventures of Mimi” tour in 2006. In 2016, Bryan talked to E! News about getting together with Mariah. He said, “something connected with us back in the day and there was just a mutual admiration.”

“She saw something in me that I didn’t actually recognize at first, from that it was over. It was set in history that we were gonna be connected some way, somehow,” he added. That same year, Mariah ended her engagement with James Packer. Shortly afterwards, she and Bryan began their own relationship.
So far, neither Mariah or Bryan have made any public statements about allegations of splitting up.
