Fat Joe has addressed Nelly and Ashanti’s rekindled romance. According to Complex, the rapper credited himself for the pair getting back together during an Instagram Live.
He explained that he brought Nelly out to New York City for his Verzuz performance with Ja Rule. Ashanti was invited too, and she and Nelly sang their 2002 hit single What’s Luv?

The duo ended their performance with a hug. Fat Joe said that when they saw each other, that energy connected again.
Complex reported that he also talked about how he’d recently Facetimed with Nelly and Ashanti, saying they looked ‘happily ever after’ together. He mentioned that he’d heard the rumor that Ashanti is pregnant and then joked that he needed 10 percent of their kid because if it wasn’t for him, they wouldn’t have met up again.
He went on to say that it was at his event that Nelly said he had to have her. The outlet shared that he was contemplating and he really wanted to go over to her.
According to Fat Joe, he eventually went to speak to Ashanti, and that’s what started the conversation between them. He also added that he didn’t know why they’d fallen out in the first place.
Nelly’s Presence Was a Shock for Ashanti
Ashanti gave her version of events when she went on The Angie Martinez Show. She said that the crazy part was that Fat Joe didn’t say anything to her.
She later asked him why he hadn’t told her that Nelly was going to be at the Verzuz event. Fat Joe reportedly said that it was because he couldn’t risk her not coming if she knew he was going to be there.
Ashanti confessed that Nelly’s presence was a shock for her. It was very unexpected; she hadn’t seen or spoken to him in six years or more. She admitted that it was a little awkward.

In early 2023, HipHopDX reported that a side-by-side photo shared on social media of Ashanti and Nelly wearing matching chains had sparked dating rumors.
Months later, an article in People Magazine talked about how those rumors were reignited after a video of them holding hands began circulating online.
Then, in May, Atlanta Black Star claimed that there was online speculation about how Ashanti could be pregnant.
She was performing in Las Vegas at the Palms Casino Resort when Nelly surprised her on stage. The source reported that Twitter users commented on a video of the performance, saying that it looked like Ashanti had a baby bump.
In September, the pair officially confirmed that they were back together. After getting a new car from Ashanti for his Birthday, Nelly shared a photo of it on Instagram.
