In the first trailer for the newest season of Teen Mom: Family Reunion, Maci Bookout’s emotional turmoil was exposed. It was clear that the root of her distress was her marriage to her husband, Taylor McKinney.

One scene in particular from the MTV trailer showed the Teen Mom OG couple in a therapy session. Maci hinted at some of the problems in their relationship, including a remark Taylor made about her parenting skills.
The 32-year-old said, “He said he would not want his daughter to become the mother that I am,” while holding back tears. Taylor was referring to the couple’s seven year old daughter Jade. Their therapist then went on to suggest that the couple have to talk to each other.

As well as Jade, Taylor and Maci share a six-year-old son, Maverick. Maci also has another son, Bentley, from a previous relationship with Ryan Edwards. The couple got married in 2016, but problems between them have started to make themselves known in recent times.
Coparenting with Ryan Has Not Been Easy
The Daily Mail reported in July that Maci was struggling to make things work regarding Taylor and her ex Ryan. Maci told The Mail, “There’s a lot of temperature checking for us, because obviously, our past with Ryan has not been the greatest.”
She added, “It has not been easy and [it’s been] really, really bad at times.” She admitted, “I feel pressure because I’m trying to support Bentley and do the right thing by him, and I’m learning how to even communicate and have a relationship with Ryan at all.”
However, this was apparently causing trouble between her and Taylor. Maci explained, “But then, [Taylor] is my husband, and he raised Bentley with me, so there’s just a lot of temperature checking that goes on.” She concluded by saying, “It’s been a lot.”

Taylor also spoke up about their problems, trying to keep positive. He said, “You’re going to see us probably in a better point in a co-parenting relationship than we had been in a long time.”
Maci also talked about all the negative comments she had received when sharing so many details about her personal life on the show. She said, “I can get a thousand comments on something nice and that one comment where someone’s like ‘You suck’ always stands out.”
However, she added, “But then I have to put it in perspective and keep going.” At that point, Maci was also trying to stay optimistic about her relationship with her husband. However, seeing the emotions coming out during their therapy session exposed the cracks that started to form in their marriage.
As for her ex Ryan, Maci reportedly attended his court hearing last June. He has been sentenced to almost a year in prison on various charges, including DUI.
