Janelle Brown’s late son, Robert Garrison Brown, was honored by the Nevada National Guard. She recently spoke out following the event.
In Touch reported that Janelle called it a “beautiful moment” in a social media update. She also shared photos from Garrison’s memorial service and revealed how the loss of her son is affecting her mentally.
“It’s been hard to get my brain to work properly again,” Janelle wrote. She added that she was grateful for the love and support she’s received in the past three weeks.
Janelle added that the support “has been overwhelming.” She was “honored” that so many fans and followers reached out to her and shared stories of their loved ones.
She also thanked everyone from the bottom of her heart for keeping her in their thoughts and praying for her. Janelle said that Garrison would have “loved” receiving a tribute from his unit in the National Guard at his celebration of life ceremony.
Janelle and Kody Released a Joint Statement
She also defended herself for sharing photos from Garrison’s memorial service. She understood that many fans and followers would have “already seen a lot” of the photos online, and she’d seen many “snarky comments” that accompanied the photos. But Janelle shut down the negativity by confessing, “This was a beautiful moment for us.”
According to In Touch, Janelle was sitting in the front row at Garrison’s memorial service while Kody Brown and his remaining wife, Robyn Brown, sat “a few seats away.” Several Brown family members “looked to be in tears as they honored” Garrison at the celebration of life, per InTouch. Garrison was only 25 years old when he passed away on March 4th due to a “self-inflicted” injury.
Kody and Janelle’s “spiritual marriage” officially ended in December 2022. But on March 5th, following the news of Garrison’s passing, Janelle and Kody released a joint statement that revealed their shared pain.
They expressed their sadness in having to announce “the loss of their beautiful boy, Robert Garrison Brown.” They added that Garrison was a “bright spot in the lives of all who knew him.”
Janelle and Kody wrote that Garrison’s loss would leave “a big hole in their lives,” so much so that it took their breath away. They also pleaded for privacy while inviting people to “join them” in honoring their late son’s memory.
March 8th was another emotional day for Janelle, as she explained on social media. She reflected on Christmas 2023 and revealed it was the last holiday where she had all her kids together. Janelle and Kody had six kids.
Kody and Garrison Were Estranged
While the memory had to have been painful for Janelle, she also admitted, “It was amazing as it’s hard with everybody’s busy lives to coordinate time like this.” She even wrote how “extremely grateful” she was that she’d gotten group photos with her entire family. Unfortunately, sources have revealed to media outlets, including In Touch, that Kody and Garrison were “estranged” before Garrison passed away.
Several years ago, they had a falling out that many Sister Wives fans and followers were aware of. This happened during pandemic shutdowns when Kody demanded that all his wives and families follow “strict rules” to decrease the possibility of spreading the virus.

Garrison did not want to follow Kody’s rules. Janelle was forced to navigate the anger and resentment between her son and husband.
Later, Today reported that “tension” had been brewing between Kody and Janelle throughout seasons 17 and 18 of Sister Wives. Kody had been the “family patriarch” for decades. But following his estrangement with Garrison and Kody admitting on-air that his relationship with Janelle was “pretty strained,” he began to devote his time and energy to the wife who remained by his side, Robyn.
Kody’s other “spiritual wife,” Christine, left him just over a year before Janelle split up with him. Although Kody was legally married to Meri Brown in 1990, People reported in December 2022 that they had split up. Meri and Kody jointly announced their divorce in January 2023.
In Touch alleged that “cameras were reportedly rolling” on a new season of Sister Wives after Garrison’s passing, but a premiere date has yet to be confirmed.
