As the titled bachelor, he was paid for his time on the show.
In the world of show business, there are worse ways to make money than having a group of women all trying to date you.
It also has a big following.
According to The New York Times, The Golden Bachelor had more views than some of the earlier Bachelor seasons combined.
That gave Gerry a lot of fame and publicity.
It likely opened up the doors to new opportunities.

On the show, Gerry said that he hadn’t dated a woman in 45 years.
He was a widow and had lost his wife a few years before the show aired.

In her shock, she fell down the stairs and had to go to the ER.
Gerry accused her of using the injury to slow her move out of the house and even accused her of trying to sue him.
Through her experience, it’s not too surprising that Gerry and Theresa got their first taste of real married life and realized they weren’t quite as compatible as they thought.
