Ashanti and Nelly are spilling secrets about what life has been like since they had their first baby together.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the couple revealed some adorable news about their son, Kareem Kenkaide “KK” Haynes.
Nelly was quick to say that Ashanti was an incredible mom. He said that watching her as a mother was so rewarding because she’s someone who really gives their all. It’s obvious to him that she cares so much about their son.
Parenthood Update
Ashanti hasn’t been holding back with her love, either. Nelly explained that she gave her complete all when caring for him. Ashanti appeared a little embarrassed during the interview about just how much she cares for her son, saying that sometimes she went a little overboard in caring for him.Nelly argued, however, that it was a good thing.
KK was born on July 18th, so the new parents have been lost in their new child for a few months now. Ashanti shared some photos of herself after giving birth to him on Instagram, where she updated her fans on what life was like after giving birth to KK.
The photo showed her posing in some gray Frida Mom shorts. In the caption, she wrote that it was funny how life’s plans aren’t always on time. Ashanti knew that she wanted to be a mother really early in life. However, it wasn’t until she was in her 40s that it finally happened.
She also admitted that even though she’s been wanting to be a mother for a long time, she realized that she was not prepared at all for what motherhood brings. In particular, the transformation of her body was really eye-opening.
The reason she wanted to post a photo of herself so soon after giving birth was that she wanted women to take pride in their postpartum bodies. She also gave a shout-out to Frida Mom, because she was loving how comfortable the shorts were on her body. Her caption ended with her saying that she was so proud of her baby boy.
She also included a small video of herself, saying that this was what her body looked like four weeks after giving birth. She was amazed at what the female body could do.
Nelly As A New Father
When it comes to Nelly as a father, Ashanti said that it was priceless to have him as the father of her baby. She called him her soulmate, her person, her best friend, and her protector. Having him in her life was an amazing feeling, and she said that the universe doesn’t make mistakes.
Now, Nelly and Ashanti were having this interview during Nelly’s big 50th birthday celebration. Nelly talked a little bit about how birthdays used to be growing up, and it was kind of a tragic story. He explained that when he was growing up, he didn’t really have birthday parties.
Unfortunately, while he was young, the family didn’t really have a lot of money to go toward things like birthday gifts or parties. It was only once he started making a lot of money that he was able to throw birthday parties for himself. Once he got into a relationship with Ashanti, that changed.
Nelly’s 50th Birthday
For his 50th birthday, Ashanti decided to host it in Las Vegas. She even gave it a theme, which was gold. So, Nelly, Ashanti, and everyone else attending the party were expected to wear gold. She had a gold-covered cake made for him, gold-covered gifts, and a number of other gold-covered decorations to really make the theme come alive.
The birthday celebration was a huge hit, too. Nelly loved it and had a great time, even though turning 50 is a bit of a big deal. He’s focused on the future, however, and he shared some plans he has in mind.
Upcoming Plans
For one, he’s really focused on fashion and plans on re-launching the pair of jeans that made him so famous–Apple Bottom jeans. This time, they’re looking at revamping the style and making them more accessible to different body types. He wanted them to be something that mothers could wear with their daughters.
As for Ashanti, she has had a lot on her plate recently, with some music and a new movie called No Address coming out. The couple also teased whether they’d be working on a project together in the near future.
Some expected them to have Las Vegas residencies together and perform together. Others thought that maybe they’d work on an album or go on tour together. Nelly teased that something was happening behind the scenes, but he couldn’t say what it was just yet.
