Billy Ray Cyrus is calling his seven-month marriage to Firerose a sham.
According to TMZ, who got a look at the court documents, Billy separated from Firerose on May 22, 2024.
The reason he’s divorcing his bride of seven months?

Why Billy Ray Cyrus Filed For Divorce
He gives two: irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct.
According to the Law Offices of Francis King, inappropriate marital conduct can mean several things.
Sometimes, it might mean there was physical or emotional abuse in the relationship.

That also includes verbal abuse.
It also includes deviant or excessive sexual demands and behavior.
Even abstaining from sex altogether can be grounds for inappropriate marital conduct.
Saying or doing things that are publicly humiliating or embarrassing to the other spouse also qualifies.
Finally, it includes dating that falls short of adultery.
The behavior must also be persistent rather than just one or two isolated events.
So, it’s possible that Billy caught Firerose doing something she wasn’t supposed to do.

Why Billy Ray Cyrus Filed For Annulment
There’s some evidence behind this speculation, too, because Billy doesn’t just want a divorce–he wants an annulment.
He claimed in his paperwork that the marriage was obtained by fraud.
One reason why Billy might want an annulment over a divorce is that it keeps him from having to pay alimony.
An annulment basically means that the wedding wasn’t legal.
Thus, since it legally didn’t happen, the couple doesn’t owe anything to each other in terms of financial support.
So, Billy wouldn’t need to pay a certain amount to Firerose every month.
That said, he did agree to pay a certain amount of money to Firerose to help her move out of the house.
After filing the paperwork for divorce and annulment, Billy gave Firerose legally two days to move out of the house.
Initially, he paid her $500/night for 10 days to temporarily house her elsewhere.
He then agreed to pay $5,000/month to help her find housing in Tennessee.
He won’t pay her $5,000 forever, though.

The documents state that he’ll pay her that amount for 90 days or until the divorce is finalized, whichever comes first.
Luckily for Billy, the divorce proceedings should be relatively quick.
The couple doesn’t share any children together, which isn’t too surprising since they were only married for seven months.
How Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose Met
Now, fans of Billy may be wondering why he’s called the marriage a sham or fraudulent since he’s known Firerose for a long time.
Although they had a whirlwind romance, he’s technically known Firerose since the Hannah Montana days.
They met on the set of the show and even released music together in 2021.
By 2023, the couple were married.

Now, whatever happened that made Billy unhappy with Firerose seems to be recent.
Last April, Firerose wrote a touching tribute to Billy on Instagram.
The picture showed them cuddled up together on the grass on their wedding day.
Firerose captioned the photo, saying that it had been six months since she had married Billy, and although life wasn’t easy, it helped that her husband was also her best friend.
In fact, Firerose posted several loving photos of herself and Billy all throughout April.
April 28 was the last photo she posted that had her and Billy in it.
They’re seen smiling and laughing together while Billy drives a boat.
Her latest post is about celebrating eight years sober.
Why Billy Ray Cyrus Hasn’t Posted Photos of Firerose Recently
Billy, on the other hand, hasn’t posted many photos of Firerose recently.
Most of his photos are about his new music that’s coming out, a few about the old days, and even one about his daughter, Miley.
Before April, however, Billy had been posting tons of photos of Firerose and himself.
So, whatever made them go their separate ways likely happened in May.
Billy and Firerose no longer follow each other on Instagram.
Billy Ray Cyrus’ First Marriage
This isn’t Billy’s first divorce.
He was married to Cindy Smith from 1986 until 1991.
His marriage to Tish Cyrus, however, is the most well-known.
Billy and Tish first met in 1993 at a club.
He was homeless at the time and living out of his car.
They met just before Billy got his huge break with the song, Achy Breaky Heart.
They moved fast together, however, and ended up having their first child together in 1992.
They had a daughter named Miley, who would go on to be as big as, if not bigger, than her father in the music industry.
Billy wasn’t faithful to Tish, however, and ended up getting another woman pregnant around the same time.
He had a son with this other woman named Christopher Cody.
Tish stuck with Billy, though, and they got married in 1993 while Tish was pregnant with their second child, Braison.
The couple had a third child together in 2000, another daughter, named Noah.

Now, trouble in paradise began for the couple in 2010 when Billy filed for divorce from Tish.

There was a rumor going around that Tish had cheated on him with Bret Michaels.
Bret denied the allegation, however, saying that he was a family friend who had been helping Miley record one of his songs.
If Tish did cheat on Billy, then maybe it created a sense of insecurity in him.
If Firerose had also had a similar relationship with another man, Billy may have wanted out of the marriage immediately since he had already experienced that heartbreak with Tish.
A year later, in 2011, Billy said he was working on his marriage with Tish.
Billy Blamed ‘Hannah Montana’ Show For Family Falling Apart
In an interview with GQ, Billy said that the show, Hannah Montana, was to blame for his family falling apart.
Since the show required him to be away from Tish for long periods of time, it further gives evidence that she may have cheated on him–or that he may have cheated on her.
Being away from one’s spouse for a long time can create distance, after all.
Later in 2011, Billy dropped his divorce, saying that he got his family back together.
Now, just because Billy didn’t want to divorce Tish anymore didn’t mean that everything was perfect.

Two years later, in 2013, Tish filed for divorce.

The couple didn’t reveal why they were choosing to separate.
But, just like the divorce in 2011, this one didn’t go through, either.
Tish said that they both woke up one day and realized that they still loved each other and wanted to be together.
She also added that they had been going to couples’ therapy, which had helped them improve their communication.
In 2022, however, the couple finally called it quits.
Tish filed for divorce again, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce.
Apparently, the couple hadn’t even been living in the same house for the past two years.
They split, and that’s when Billy started dating Firerose.
He moved fast, too.
The divorce from Tish happened in April 2022, and four months later, he was engaged to Firerose.
Cyrus Family Drama
Now, being engaged to Firerose caused some drama in the Cyrus family.
Miley, in particular, didn’t seem happy that her dad was dating someone close in age to her.
Considering that Billy met Firerose on the set of Hannah Montana, there’s certainly a reason to feel unhappy about the relationship.
Firerose is 34 years old now, which means she would have been between the ages of 16 and 21, depending on when they met while the show aired.
She’s also four years older than Miley.
According to The Sun, Miley and the rest of the Cyrus kids have been having problems with their parents since their divorce.
Some have sided with their mother while others have sided with their father.
Miley seemed to choose her mom since she attended her wedding to actor Dominic Purcell.
The other kids didn’t.
When Miley won a Grammy in 2024, she thanked all her family members except Billy.
She even made it a point to ask if she had forgotten anyone and still didn’t mention Billy.
Now that Firerose is out of the picture, fans will have to wait and see whether the two make up.

Miley isn’t the only Cyrus daughter having drama with their parent, either.
Noah Cyrus is also mad at Tish because she allegedly stole her boyfriend from her.
According to US Weekly, Noah was the one dating Dominic before Tish.
However, Tish, who claimed she had a long-time crush on the actor, went on a date with him, and they ended up making out three hours into it.
The two fell in love, and Noah was left behind.
Regardless of the drama, Tish has managed to stay married longer than Billy.
Fans will have to wait and see if Billy or Firerose gives more details about their fast divorce.
