Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been going through a divorce and custody battle for nearly 8 years now. This has been tough on the entire family, including their daughter Shiloh, who was caught in the middle of their dispute.
Recently, Shiloh made it clear she was siding with her mother, as she legally filed to remove “Pitt” from her hyphenated last name. According to reports, Pitt is upset and devastated by the news, though he knows he can’t force her to do anything and can only hope the relationship gets better over time.
Why Angelina Jolie Filed For Divorce
Pitt and Jolie first met while filming the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2003, and began to fall in love on the set. The pair were often seen together by the paparazzi over the following years, but only went public with their relationship for the first time in early 2006, when Jolie announced she was pregnant with Pitt’s child.
After many years together, the couple ultimately married in 2014. However, only two short years after being married, Jolie officially filed for divorce on September 19th 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. There were also allegations of abuse carried out by Pitt on an airplane ride in September 2016, but Pitt has denied these. This event on the plane reportedly occurred only a few days before Jolie filed for divorce.

Why Shiloh Jolie Decided to Change Last Name
However, the divorce process has dragged on for multiple years as the two continue to fight for custody of their children. In addition to this process being difficult for the couple, it’s also been especially challenging for their 18-year old daughter Shiloh. She had to grow up throughout this back and forth battle, as she was only around 10 years old when Jolie filed for divorce.
Recently, Shiloh made it clear whose side she was on when she filed to legally change her name from Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, to Shiloh Jolie. This is something she’s reportedly wanted to do for years, and actually filed on May 27th, 2024, which was her 18th birthday. She even paid for and hired her very own lawyer to help file the name change according to reports.
Brad Pitt’s Child Blasted Pitt As Being a Terrible Person
However, Shiloh’s not the only one of their children to pick a side, as several other children are estranged from Pitt or don’t spend much time with him.

This includes 22-year old Maddox, who has no intention of seeing Pitt again according to reports, and 19-year old Zahara, who publicly introduces herself as Zahara Jolie and doesn’t keep in contact with Pitt. Also, 20-year old Pax has publically blasted Pitt as being a terrible person on a private Instagram account.
Pitt is reportedly hurt and upset by Shiloh’s recent choice and is pained by the distance between him and his children over the years, and wants to regain their trust. While the final outcome of the divorce is still up in the air, it seems as if Shiloh and the other children have picked their side, and Pitt doesn’t seem particularly happy about it.
