Rapper Common made headlines earlier in the year after announcing his relationship with Jennifer Hudson. Now, he is back in the news after a surprising announcement during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club that left many followers wondering whether or not his relationship would last.

Amongst all of the crazy news in July, you may have missed Common and Pete Rock stopping by The Breakfast Club to talk about their new album. The two reminisced about their life in the music industry and the ways hip-hop has changed.
A lot of the show covered the two’s history together, dating back to the early 90s. More importantly, they talked about some classic hip-hop artists like LL Cool J, Ice Cube, and Run DMC.

Many old-school rappers are more popular than ever, releasing new songs and still managing to sell out shows. The lasting legacy just goes to show how important many of the messages were and how much they still resonate today.

Common and Jennifer Hudson
Later in the interview, the topic of Common marrying girlfriend Jennifer Hudson came up. The two appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show in January to officially confirm they were dating. Since then, many have wondered what’s going on and when they may take their relationship to the next level.
Common said, “I’m just doing my best to keep God first and communicate.” He also lamented his past failed relationships and took responsibility for the failures.
Host Charlamagne tha God said that Common’s statements sounded like something someone contemplating marriage would say. Common didn’t come right out and say that he plans to propose anytime soon, but he did say “If I’m gonna get married, it’s to her.”

In the interview, Common talked a lot about his and Hudson’s upbringings in Chicago and how it really puts them on the same wavelength. The two recently spent time together in their home city as he took time off from recording and touring.
It’s also worth noting that Common made an appearance on The Today Show back in January to discuss his book. While on that show, Hoda Kotb questioned him about his relationship, which he and Jennifer had just revealed publicly.
Hoda pushed him a little bit on whether or not he was “the marrying type,” to which he responded by explaining that he had grown as a person and felt he did want to marry. However, he said it had to be the right person.
Neither Common nor Jennifer Hudson has been married, but both have children from previous relationships. After hearing Common’s recent interview, everyone is left wondering when he is planning on proposing to Jennifer.
