There was a lot of back and forth between them, with both sides accusing each other of some extremely serious things.
The whole legal battle was super costly, and because of Dre’s incredible wealth, there was a lot of money at stake.
The divorce inevitably attracted a lot of negative press, with many headlines speculating on what the final outcome of the divorce would be.

Under the terms of the divorce settlement, Dre’s ex-wife Nicole ended up with 100 million dollars.

According to NBC’s sources, she received $50 million straight away, and then the other $50 million came a year later.
It was a lot of money, but it didn’t compare to Dre’s total wealth, which, at the time of the NBC report, was reportedly around $820 million.
However, Celebrity Net Worth claims that as of 2024, Dre is now worth $500 million, and has an average monthly income of around $230,000.
When Nicole filed for divorce in June 2020, she was originally seeking $2 million a month in spousal support.
Around that time, TMZ’s insiders predicted that Nicole was entitled to about $100,000 in spousal support.
They also told the outlet that once the case was resolved and Dre had discontinued his then-practice of paying for all of her expenses, Nicole was going to have to learn to tighten her belt.
Court documents obtained by the Sun revealed that in July 2021, Dre was eventually ordered to pay his ex $293,000 a month, starting in August of that year.
Dr. Dre Allegedly Served Divorce Papers After Burying His Grandmother
A few months later, TMZ claimed that things got really ugly when Dre was served divorce papers during a tragic occasion.
He’d allegedly just finished burying his grandmother at a cemetery when he was approached by a process server.
The outlet’s sources alleged that Dre was in the cemetery’s parking lot at the time, and he was so upset by the situation that he refused to take the paperwork.
The server reportedly dropped the documents right there in the parking lot.
The papers were said to have been about Nicole’s attorney’s fees.
The TMZ report said that the couple were arguing over how much Dre needed to pay.
He’d reportedly paid $325,000, however, the judge had signed an order which said that he actually had to pay $1,550,000 – an amount that Dre did not think was accurate, but Nicole said the order was clear.
Throughout the case, Dre talked about how expensive the divorce was, and how it was costing him a lot.
Radar Online reported that while talking about his divorce, he once said that his goal and desire was to settle.
He wanted to move on with his life, put the divorce behind him, and put an end to the enormous costs of the procedure.
Dr. Dre’s Ex-Wife, Nicole Young, Clapped Back
Nicole clapped back and claimed that what he’d said wasn’t true.
She alleged that he was angry and spiteful because she didn’t want to give in to his demands, which she described as unreasonable.
Radar Online had gotten hold of court filings which said that if anyone was to blame for the contentious and expensive litigation, it was Dre, his team, and the choices Dre had made.
Nicole’s lawyer shared that he was under the impression that Dre was playing games in an attempt to prolong the litigation and emotionally and financially wear Nicole down.

TMZ commented on how nasty and personal things had gotten between the ex couple at different moments of the divorce procedure.
At one point, Nicole accused Dre of attempting to hide assets that were considered to be community property.
Dr. Dre Filed Embezzlement Lawsuit Against Ex-Wife
Then, in September 2020, Dre filed a lawsuit against Nicole claiming that she’d embezzled over $350,000 from his company, Recording One Studio, while they were married.
A report by Radar Online revealed that before the divorce proceedings began, Nicole allegedly had access to the maintenance and control of the business’ assets.
Which meant that she would’ve been allowed to transfer funds and write checks, too.
Dre accused his ex of decimating his assets when she allegedly stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from the company’s account.
He claimed that the money was not taken out for any business transactions, but for her own personal use.
According to a report by TMZ, Nicole’s lawyer released a statement saying that the lawsuit was a low-grade PR stunt by Dre and his team.
He added that there was no question that Nicole had both the contractual and the legal right to take the money out, and that Dre’s team was well aware of that.
Another Radar Online article announced that Dre dropped the embezzlement lawsuit in 2021, as part of the divorce settlement.
Why Dr. Dre’s Ex-Wife, Nicole, Filed for Divorce
When she originally filed for divorce, Nicole cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, according to TMZ’s reporting on the news.
But the Sarno Law Firm reported that she later revealed that there was another reason for her wanting to end her marriage.
Nicole accused her ex husband of harming her throughout their marriage.
She claimed that he’d held a weapon to her head twice, and that he’d physically hurt her more than once.

She also said that because of Dre’s actions, she suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome.
A Daily Mail report said that Dre denied the allegations against him, and claimed that his ex had invented the accusations after the divorce filing as a way to get money from him in the divorce.
One of the major disagreements the couple had during the lengthy divorce was over their prenup.
According to the Sarno Law Firm article, Dre and Nicole signed a prenuptial agreement just before they got married in 1996.
The agreement stated that any property they bought together would be considered community property, and any property they bought individually would be theirs to keep if they got divorced.
Dr. Dre and Nicole Young’s Prenup Agreement
Nicole alleged that she felt forced to sign the prenup.
Fox News reported on a statement by Nicole which claimed that before their wedding date, Dre demanded that she sign a premarital agreement that 16 of his lawyers had drafted.
She went on to explain that at the time, Dre was a well-known producer and rapper in the music industry, but he wasn’t anywhere near as famous as he later became during their marriage.
He reportedly told her that she had to sign the premarital agreement or he would not marry her.
She added that she was extremely reluctant, resistant, and afraid to sign the agreement.
Nicole then went on to claim something that would become a contested topic in the divorce.
She alleged that Dre let her know that he felt ashamed that he had pressured her into signing a premarital agreement, and that he tore up multiple copies of the agreement in front of her.
And she claimed that since that day, they both understood that there was no prenup and that it was null and void.
So, because of that alleged understanding, Nicole reportedly felt that Dre’s assets should’ve been split in half, because they’d verbally agreed that they weren’t bound by a prenup anymore.
However, Sarno Law Firm pointed out that according to the prenuptial agreement that Dre had reportedly torn up, it could only be amended or terminated through writing.
Dr. Dre Stood in Front of Bouquet That Read: ‘Divorced AF’
And that writing did not exist, which was why Dre was not legally obligated to give Nicole half of his fortune.
NBC news reported that aside from the $100 million dollars that Nicole left the marriage with, she also got to keep all her jewelry, as well as four vehicles- a Range Rover, a Rolls Royce, A Spyder motorcycle, and an Escalade Limousine.
As part of the divorce agreement, she had to move out of the couple’s Malibu beach home.
NBC’s sources claimed that Dre in turn got to keep the majority of his wealth, including trademarks, master recordings and interests in different partnerships and trusts.
An insider close to Dre told Rolling Stone that he was delighted with the settlement, as it meant that his ex wife would only get a fifth of his liquid assets.
When the divorce was finalized, a Capital Xtra report claimed that the rapper threw a party to celebrate the occasion.
Dre’s friend Breyon Prescott posted a photo of him on Instagram in front of a balloon bouquet that read- ‘Divorced AF’.
