Hip Hop pioneer Dr. Dre recently revealed some scary details about his health crisis three years ago. He was talking in an interview on SiriusXM with James Corden about being hospitalized in Los Angeles in 2021.
NBC reported that he had been treated for a brain aneurysm after experiencing pain behind his right ear. In his recent appearance on James Corden’s show, Dre revealed that he had suffered no less than three strokes shortly after his hospitalization.
He said that he had started “blacking out” before ending up in the ICU. When he was there, he told James, that the doctors said to him, “You don’t know how lucky you are.”

As well as suffering two strokes, Dre was also told that he had high blood pressure. He admitted that this in particular came as a surprise to him.
Dre has been known for years to maintain a very healthy lifestyle. He told James, “I’m lifting weights, I’m running, I’m doing everything I can to keep myself healthy.”
Dre explained that he had been curious to know what he could have done to avoid his terrifying health crisis. He had asked if working out “a little bit harder” or eating differently would have prevented him from being hospitalized. However, he had been told that his problems were “hereditary”, and there was nothing he could have done.
Dr. Dre Has Made a Full Recovery
Despite this, Dre has managed to take some positivity from his suffering. He confessed that his time under medical supervision made him really appreciate being alive. He explained, “When you go through that situation, it’s crazy, especially when I was on my way home from the hospital because possibly, that couldn’t have happened.”
After getting released it dawned on Dre what the doctors meant when they called him lucky. He might have suffered a far worse fate than 2 weeks in hospital. He admitted that it felt “crazy” to understand that this was something that he had no control over, something that came “right out of the blue”.
After his initial hospitalization in 2021, Dre shared an Instagram post to express his gratitude for all the support he had received. He wrote, “Thanks to my family, friends, and fans for their interest and well wishes. I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team.”
At the time, this reassured fans that Dre was going to be alright. We had no idea about just how extreme his situation continued to be for the next two weeks. Luckily, Dre seems to have made a full recovery and is finally comfortable sharing the full truth about what he went through.
In the time since his illness, he has been able to get back to living his best life. This week, the rap mogul celebrated getting his well-earned star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame.
The 59-year-old was joined by some of the biggest names in hip hop for the ceremony, including his proteges Eminem and 50 Cent, as well as old friend Snoop Dogg.
