All attention is on Joan Vassos as she prepares to debut on the premiere of Golden Bachelorette. The news has been a breath of fresh air to fans of the Golden Bachelor Show because Joan Vassos stole the hearts of many when she participated.
Unfortunately, she left everyone on a high when she had to self-eliminate after receiving news that her daughter was struggling with postpartum depression.

Joan’s Premature Departure From the Golden Bachelor Show
Joan’s premature departure after week three could be why everyone wants to see how things would go if she stayed until the end.
In the short time she was on the show, she rekindled a promising connection with another male participant, Gerry. People were rooting for them to get married towards the end of the show in what the producers branded “The Golden Wedding.”
All eyes will be on Joan Vassos because, within her brief stint, she didn’t buy into the unnecessary drama. She was genuinely there to find love and was the most graceful, dignified, and self-aware queen to grace the show.
The 61-year-old school administrator from Maryland was so nervous, but nature has a sense of humor because it was during one of her most anxious moments that she stole Gerry’s heart.
The Golden Bachelor hosted a talent show, and out of nervousness and stage fright, all Joan could do was recite a poem titled “I Just Hope I Don’t Vomit on Your Shoes.”
The poem was about her first encounter with Gerry, her nerves, and her excitement to get to know him more. Gerry was so impressed that they later had a special one-on-one dinner, having genuine conversations that most people on such shows don’t even bother to discuss.
During their dinner, they talked about not rushing to settle down after losing their partners and their reluctance to move just to be with each other. This dinner was the height of their romance. Gerry even gave Joan a flower, and from then on, their chemistry was off the charts.
Joan Vassos’ Daughter’s Health Scare
Just as fans were warming up for the potential Golden Wedding couple, Joan received a devastating phone call about her daughter’s health and had to drop everything to run home. Gerry was so devastated that he even cried.
Though devastating to the two lovebirds, the production, and fans, this gesture of selflessness won the hearts of many.

Later, during an interview with “The Women Tell All”, Joan said that she and Gerry “had a good chance” of being together. She added, “I held out hope for a little while, honestly, and I did think a couple of times, maybe I would come around the corner coming home from work, and he’d be sitting on my front porch.”
When Joan left, she hoped to deal with her daughter’s situation quickly and return to the show. The production had even booked her flight back. Joan said, “I was going to come back, maybe four or five days after I left. And then my daughter wasn’t good again. We just hadn’t made it far enough—I hadn’t gotten her a doctor yet; I had call in, but it just couldn’t unfold quick enough.”
Joan Returns to the Golden Bachelorette
Now, with the announcement that Vassos would grace the screen again and hopefully follow through to the end, fans are over the moon.
However, there’s a problem. While she had to self-eliminate prematurely the first time, fans could be in for another disappointment following Joan’s latest revelation.
As much as she’s a fantastic choice for the show, there might be a big challenge because Joan has made it clear that she is looking for love, but not necessarily marriage right off the bat. She wants to take things slow and know her potential suitor outside the show before committing to marriage.
This might be a problem since she will be the lead in the Golden Bachelorette show. People are worried that the producers might exploit her and influence her to say “I do” before she’s ready. Naturally, that’s just how the show works; in the end, a wedding is expected. Failure to deliver this means the show did not serve its intended purpose.
Will Joan Vassos and Gerry Marry, Then Divorce, Too?
The mother of four is right because most Golden Bachelor couples who marry during the season finale usually end up divorcing. Take Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, for instance. The producers presented things as all rosy with a promise of a happily-ever-after fairytale.
However, just three months after marrying, they announced their divorce because they never discussed their non-negotiables, like where to live as a couple. Neither was willing to move or leave their families behind.
News about their divorce shook Golden Bachelor fans to the core, and that’s why they are worried for Joan Vassos.
There’s likely to be a conflict of interest since, while the producers shouldn’t interfere with her decision to take more time to know her partner before marriage, they also care about their ratings. Their interference is almost a given.
If there isn’t an actual engagement or marriage prospect in the end, then the whole point of the show is lost, and that right there is the dilemma.
Fans feel Joan Vassos is too good for such gimmicks and doesn’t deserve to be toyed with, especially after everything she’s been through. Other fans are optimistic that this season will be different, even though the Bachelor franchise hasn’t exactly been a success all through the years.
