‘Pretty Woman’ and ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ star, Richard Gere made the news when he tied the knot with Alejandra Silva in 2018. Quite apart from the fact that this was his third wife, what excited the press more was that Alejandra was 33 years his junior.

It’s a significant age gap. She’s in her early 40s now and Gere his mid-70s. He began his acting career in 1969, hitting the big time and Hollywood a year later. Even so, the difference in their ages hasn’t stopped the couple from welcoming two sons into the world since their marriage.
Richard Gere’s Wife, Alejandra, Said, ‘Our Karma Was Attracted’
The romance was slow in blooming. Silva, who runs the nonprofit Rais Foundation combatting homelessness in Spain, first met Gere when she was in her 20s. He was already in his 50s. When they met again in 2014, there was an instant connection. ‘Our karma was attracted,’ Silva told Hola! magazine in 2015. Apparently, the ‘strong karmic energy’ held a lot more sway than the age difference or the fact she’d need to make significant life adjustments with Gere being such an iconic Hollywood star. As she went on to explain, the attraction made any problems ‘disappear’.

The pair share a deep spiritual bond, a source close to the couple told US Weekly. They are both Buddhist, Gere was exploring Zen Buddhism in his early 20s. Both have a strong belief in karma. They enjoy intellectual pursuits and share their quality time meditating, reading and exercising together. It’s not that they choose to ignore the age difference, it’s that they seek to embrace it.

Gere had something to say on the subject. He declared himself the happiest man in the universe in a Hello! interview. No mean feat. The actor dated many beautiful women and he was married to a supermodel, Cindy Crawford (1991-1995), and actress Carey Lowell (2002-2006). He happily stated that he’s now married to a beautiful, intelligent woman, who is sensitive and fun, patient and forgiving and committed to helping others. He also added that she was a great cook and made the best salads in the world. Well, the way to the heart is through the stomach.
Their first son, Alexander was born in February 2019 when Gere was a young at heart 69-year-old. A little over a year later, in April 2020, the second arrived. Both already have adult sons, Gere had Homer with Carey and Silva had Albert with her previous husband, Govind Friedland.

On their third anniversary Silva took to Instagram to proclaim her lasting love for Gere, ‘the most wonderful man’ she had ever met, the love of her life. She told the world how proud she was to be with him. Without doubt, she has been a pillar of support, even accompanying Gere to his red carpet events. The glimpses we have of them via social media seem to bear witness that the age gap has made no difference and they are truly a happy couple.
