Reality star Kim Kardashian has upset her fans again. Last year, it was for her ‘there’s nothing like being a boy mom’ quip and her claim girls have ‘attitude’. This time, the business mogul is getting seriously called out for stealing the limelight from her own daughter, 10-year-old North West.
This particular controversy erupted after Kim hit Instagram to post herself sporting a fluffy yellow outfit. Unfortunately, this outfit was a little too similar to the Simba costume North was wearing for her acting debut in the live performance of The Lion King musical at the Hollywood Bowl.
Kim Kardashian Is Notorious For Making It ‘All About Me’
Making it ‘all about me’ as one fan put it, Kim, 43, struck a pose pre-show wearing fuzzy yellow in the form of a shearling messenger bag, an oversized shearling coat and a huge trapper hat. She followed the theme through for a photo shoot. Donning a pair of sheer leggings for pants as Bianca Censori, and masses of fuzzy yellow as chaps, Kimmy was more reminiscent of Big Bird than Simba.
Fans were critical anyway, and took to social media to say so, ‘North was having her moment, and here comes Kim trying to steal the spotlight’. It didn’t stop there, ‘Poor North can’t even have her own moment to shine,’ one wrote.
Fans Question Kim’s Motives
As another critical fan cited Kim for her major ‘I need attention’ vibe, others got busy speculating on her motives. Was the big yellow outfit part of a calculated move to create a buzz around the event, or a buzz around Kim herself?
Her fans quickly moved on to their more regular topic, voicing their thoughts and opinions on KK’s parenting style and choices. It’s not the first time Kim or her family have faced this kind of backlash from fans and followers, although it’s usually for using their fame to push their kids to the fore. This accusation popped up again as North’s acting debut went viral. It spawned a new term, ‘nepo baby’.
Fans Defend North West
Some defended North’s developing talents, like author Marc Lamont Hill, in an interview with TMZ. He reminded all that although her singing was suspect, North’s celebrity child status could draw crowds to future Disney stage productions. That should bring Disney some comfort.
People get passionate when celebrity parents overshadow their children’s achievements and equally passionate when the same celebs give their kids a leg up, let’s say, into show business. But as some fans pointed out, this sort of thing is a pattern in the Kardashian-Jenner family. Kourtney wore her daughter Penelope’s top. The pic hit the big time on TikTok when some bright spark added what everyone was thinking. The caption read, ‘Kourtney let P shine challenge’. Kylie Jenner does the same with Stormi, opting for the matched designer look when attending events together.
Kim hasn’t responded. It’s nothing new. She let North go to fashion week with straightened hair and wearing make-up, kicking the critics off again. To be fair, Kim is usually quite open about the challenges she faces raising four kids with an ex-husband who, like her, lives life under a spotlight.
