Julia Roberts is among the most famous and beloved actresses in Hollywood. Since breaking out in the 1990 film “Pretty Woman,” she has won numerous awards over the years and her films have grossed billions of dollars.

However, off the screen, she’s been in a long feud with her brother, actor Eric Roberts. This has been going on since the 1980s. According to You, Eric believes that his addiction to drugs like cocaine helped to push the family apart.

The relationship hit another major snag in 1993 when Eric and his ex, Kelly Cunningham, were in a custody battle over his daughter, Emma. For those unfamiliar, Emma has gone on to become a successful actress, as well.

Instead of siding with her brother, Julia sided with his ex. She even helped to pay some of her legal fees during the case. As a result, the pair didn’t speak for around a decade.

But in 2004, Today reported that when Julia gave birth to twins, Eric and his wife dropped off gifts for the children at the hospital. They were allegedly greeted with open arms. By this point, he was in a better place and had gotten assistance for his substance abuse issues.

Eric Wants to End the Feud

Unfortunately, in 2018, Eric once again reignited the flame when he told Vanity Fair, “If it wasn’t for me, there would be no Julia Roberts and no Emma Roberts as celebrities, as actresses, and I’m very proud of that”. This is a very bold statement. It discredits everything his sister and daughter have done, as he essentially takes credit for turning them into who they are today.

He received quite a bit of backlash for these words from the public and the media alike. However, a few years later, Eric has had a change of heart. He tried to put an end to the feud when he released his memoir titled “Runaway Train: Or, The Story of my Life So Far” in mid-September 2024.

In the memoir, he said that his past claims were “asinine,” according to People Magazine. He said it was not only an unfortunate choice of words but also simply untrue.

He added that while he was proud of her, he turned the pride so that it would be to his own advantage. Eric also said in the book that he hopes Julia will accept his public apology.

Independent reported that, in a recent episode of the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast, Eric revealed that both Julia and Emma have asked him to not talk about them. Unfortunately, this is something that he hasn’t done.

While it remains to be seen if Julia will accept his apology, Eric is ready to move forward as a family.
