Jennifer Hudson made relationship news at an LA Clippers Game on Wednesday, January 10th. Us Weekly reported that She sat courtside with Common, and this sighting seemed to confirm what Jennifer revealed in an interview late last year.
Common is 51, and Jennifer is 42. They’ve been linked for nearly two years, but before November 2023, Common and Jennifer had not publicly acknowledged they were a couple. When they were first linked in July 2022, Jennifer denied the dating rumors to Entertainment Tonight and TMZ.
They looked like they were dressed for a comfy date at the Wednesday night basketball game. Jennifer wore a black leather jacket and cat-eyed glasses, and Common sported a coordinated, checkerboard-patterned denim jacket and jeans. Jennifer and Common share a lot in “common.” They are both from Chicago, and they’ve both won Oscars and Grammys.
Common and Jennifer met as fellow actors when they co-starred in a movie called “Breathe.” Common and Jennifer were on location in Pennsylvania through the summer of 2022. It didn’t help the romance rumors that Jennifer and Common were playing a married couple in “Breathe.” When they were photographed together at a Philadelphia restaurant, it seemed like Jennifer and Common were taking their onscreen relationship offscreen.
Jennifer Called Common a “Beautiful Man”
Jennifer spoke with Entertainment Tonight in September 2022 and addressed the rumors. She told ET, “People create their narratives of it.” Jennifer’s side of the story was, “We shot a film together, and he played my husband. We gotta eat in between those moments.”
That sounded reasonable then, but Jennifer told TMZ something very different in August 2023. When asked by TMZ if the Common dating rumors were true, Jennifer stated that “rumors say a lot of things.” She also admitted that Common was a “beautiful man,” telling TMZ, “That’s for certain.”
Lonnie Rashid Lynn is Common’s real name. When he was done shooting the movie with Jennifer, they continued to be spotted together throughout the remainder of 2022 and 2023.
In July 2023, Jennifer was vacationing in London, England. While sightings of Common with Jennifer were unconfirmed on that trip, her fans on Instagram discussed whether Common was with her in the UK. Fans heard a man’s voice, who allegedly sounded like Common, in a video that Jennifer posted on social media.
We might hear Jennifer and Common together in a song one day because TMZ asked her if she would ever consider a music collaboration with Common. Jennifer said, “It would be dope to see two Chicagoans together.” She also said, “It could be awesome. You’re right about that.”
Finally, on November 6, 2023, Jennifer gave the most revealing statement yet. According to Us Weekly, she was being interviewed by Gayle King of CBS This Morning when Gayle asked her about the dating rumors. Jennifer confirmed, “I am very happy, yes, ma’am.” Although she did not specifically name Common, Jennifer said that her relationship is “more sophisticated than boo’ed up.” She also confirmed to Gayle, “It’s definitely not an entanglement; that’s for sure.”
Jennifer Was Previously Engaged
Jennifer has a teenage son named David Otunga Jr. She was previously engaged to her son’s father, David Sr. Media outlets, including US Weekly, reported that their relationship ended bitterly. She and David officially ended their engagement in November 2017. There was a nasty custody battle over their son.

Common has a daughter, Omoye Lynn, who is in her 20s. Her mother is Common’s ex, Kim Jones, although the two were never married. Common has been linked to the singer Erykah Badu and actress Taraji P. Henson. He also dated superstar athlete Serena Williams.
Common and actress-comedian Tiffany Haddish made headlines in 2021. They dated for approximately a year, and People reported comments that Tiffany made about Common.
This happened when Tiffany appeared on the Smartless podcast. She told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett that she and Common didn’t live in the same house. Tiffany also said, “I would love for him to always be my friend. If he decides he wants to marry me, cool.” She also claimed on the podcast, “I don’t want a ring. I want an apartment building.”
In July 2023, Tiffany spoke to The Washington Post. US Weekly reported what Tiffany said during that interview. Tiffany told The Post that her relationship with Common was the healthiest and most fun she’s ever had. She also said, “It’s where I felt safest out of all the relationships I’ve ever had.”
Tiffany Claimed Their Breakup “Wasn’t Mutual”
Tiffany also made allegations about how Common ended their relationship. She claimed to The Post that the breakup “wasn’t mutual.” Tiffany alleged that Common began to go to events without her, including Barack Obama’s birthday party, a concert in New York, and even Common’s own birthday celebration.
Then, Tiffany claims she received a phone call from Common, and she alleged he used that phone conversation to break up with her. Tiffany said, “It was more him saying, ‘I think this relationship has run its course.” She allegedly asked Common if he was okay being a 50-year-old single man again.
However, it would appear that Common isn’t single anymore.
In addition to their recent sighting at the Clippers game and Jennifer’s confession on CBS This Morning, Us Weekly confirmed that Common and Jennifer were spotted holding hands at a jazz event in New York City on November 4th.
