Katy Perry’s attempt at a comeback has flopped. And everyone is talking about it.
Once at the top of the charts, Perry took some time out after her Super Bowl appearance to take on a gig judging on American Idol. She attempted a comeback five years ago but then made news more for having a baby rather than her music.

Now Perry is attempting another comeback with Woman’s World. It’s not the big release she wanted it to be.

Perry’s comeback single immediately gained haters because of the producer she chose to resume working with. Dr. Luke has been accused of sexual assault by Kesha, and many people stand by Kesha in her statements. Working with him is a stab against Kesha and other women speaking out about abuse.

The song is supposed to be full of feminist statements, but the decision to work with Dr. Luke goes against everything that she apparently stands for. The choice of producer undermines the message of empowerment. Those who viewed the attempted comeback as a flop noted that the song was always doomed to fail even before hearing it.
There’s also the fact that former fans of the star believe that the song is just bad. The Daily Beast states that the song is lyrically devoid and doesn’t have the infectious production that could salvage that.
The song is also considered regressive. Rather than capture the hit songs of today, Perry is going back to songs of the early 2000s and 2010s.
It just doesn’t work anymore. Many have started to view her as a singer who should just stay in the previous decade.
The Music Video Makes It All Worse
Then there’s the music video, which is an attempt at causing controversy. All it does is diminish the meaning of the song.
In an attempt to poke fun at stereotypes, it tries to mix the messages of World War II America with current opinions of women. Nothing works.
Perry took to social media in an attempt to explain the video. When you need to explain it, it means that the whole thing didn’t work. The video just repeats the message that people got from her working with Dr. Luke again; she doesn’t understand her own message.

Perry flopping is a shock to many. Fans have called for her to bring back everything people loved about the likes of E.T. and Firework.
Sadly, Perry didn’t learn from the mistakes of her 2019 comeback attempt. Many stars have sell-out tours without chart toppers, and Perry should follow their shoes to make her comeback.
Fans will follow quality music, but Perry doesn’t have it with her recent release. If she continues this way, she will disappear into obscurity.
