Kelly Clarkson Reveals Sad New Details About Divorce

Kelly Clarkson recently opened up about the devastating fallout after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock. What she revealed is shocking. Not only did Kelly confess that the divorce had been “extraordinarily hard” on her mental health, but she also admitted that she didn’t even want to get married in the first place.

At the beginning of this year, Kelly did an exclusive interview with People.com. Although she claimed she was “taking her power back,” Kelly is still working through tremendous challenges to get there.

Kelly explained that her “level of depression and things that come with divorce or grieving” are the hardest things she’s faced post-breakup. She added, “You feel alone, and it’s just a blessing to be able to have that outlet for those emotions that are overwhelming.”

Kelly Knew Her Marriage Wouldn’t Work

In June 2023, Kelly sat down for a podcast interview with Zane Lowe. Kelly was equally candid with Zane. This included a revelation that she and Brandon had attempted couples therapy because Kelly “desperately” wanted her marriage to survive.

Still, Kelly admitted to Zane, “I think I knew in my heart it just wasn’t going to.” She also claimed that she was going to be “brutally honest” about something else during her interview with Zane. Even though Kelly is happy for the fresh start of moving her family and her talk show to New York City, she confessed to Zane, “I’m not going to say I did it gracefully.”

Kelly revealed that her marriage to Brandon became so toxic she needed “many sessions” where she leaned on her close friends for support. But Kelly confessed that often, she “couldn’t even speak” to her friends. She said she cried so hard about her failing marriage to Brandon, even before they decided to separate.

Kelly’s interview with Zane discussed divorce, heartbreak, and her recently released album, Chemistry. Kelly called songwriting her “outlet” and said it allowed her to be a “let-go person” who didn’t hold grudges.

Kelly also set the record straight about her so-called “divorce album.” She told Zane that she was “really delving into what happened in my life and why.”

Chemistry is Kelly’s 10th studio album. It is probably her most explosive and personal project to date because Kelly has hinted that the album explores “secrets” and “lies” that she faced in her marriage.

Kelly Says “Love Is Not Forever”

In another People.com exclusive, Kelly confessed that she believes “love is not forever.” She said during the interview, “I’ve always known that love is hard.” She claimed that, for her, love has always been like “this elephant in the room of sadness.”

Kelly didn’t want her words to “sound depressing.” She explained that she believes people “put a lot of pressure” on the word love and what it’s supposed to mean. In the end, the love she once had for Brandon took on an especially painful meaning.

She told People that in her marriage to Brandon, the definition of love became “looking at someone” and admitting that “this is not good for you. This is not good for me.” She admitted, “That’s a hard thing to face.” But Kelly believes she’s grown tremendously from these difficult and emotionally challenging experiences.

It’s not the first time that Kelly has been exposed to the pain of divorce, either. She admitted to People that she’s lived through a “couple [of] divorces” during her childhood. When it comes to her daughter, River, and son, Remy, Kelly claims she would never think of remarrying “until they’re out of my house.”

Kelly’s talk show and album are helping her regain her power. She joked to People, “That sounds very therapy,” but she revealed that she loves therapy and said, “I think it’s important to have those tools to navigate your life and relationships.”

Allegedly, Kelly seems to be at her happiest as a single mom. She told People, “Dating sucks. It’s so awkward,” and she revealed, “I was single until I was 30.” She claimed that she doesn’t need anything—or anyone—right now.

Kelly revealed that a “potential partner” would need to be an “individual” with their own life, who doesn’t need anything from her. Kelly admitted, “I’m really good right now. I’m having a good time.”
