Luke Combs isn’t just a country music superstar—he’s also an excellent songwriter and has a knack for choosing songs that become hits. Recently, Luke combined his incredible talents in a very personal song that allegedly “blindsided” his wife, Nicole.
Us Weekly reported in March 2024 that Luke surprised Nicole by recording a song in honor of their two young sons, 20-month-old Tex and six-month-old Beau. In January, Luke revealed to fans and followers that he was back in the studio.

But Us Weekly also reported a shocking comment on Luke’s Instagram that got a ton of notice from other fans. That’s because Luke’s better half wrote this very personal comment!
Nicole appeared in the comments section, writing, “You can’t just drop this and not tell me.” She also revealed she was feeling “Blindsided and EMOTIONAL.”

Luke claims he’s afraid that he won’t be able to live up to the image his two sons will have of him. He sings that he hopes they never find out that he “didn’t hang the moon” and that he never “scared a monster out” of the closet in their room. But in the song, Luke sings that he hopes that “someday” between them “leaving home and driving on my knee,” he can “finally be the man” his sons can believe in and be proud of.
While Nicole’s reaction to the song was the most personal and revealing, Luke’s friends and fellow country stars also commended him on social media. Cole Swindell wrote, “Lord,” in praise of the song, and Nate Smith proclaimed, “I love this Luke,” with seven exclamation marks.
American Songwriter reported that many of Luke’s fans “weren’t expecting such an emotional punch on a Wednesday morning.” In the comments section, Nicole’s emotional confession received 1,000+ likes within an hour of her posting it.
Luke’s New Music Focuses on Fatherhood
Many fans who loved the song and liked Nicole’s comment are also moms who are raising boys. One of them wrote, “From one boy mom to another… this right here is priceless,” while another mom wrote, “Omg my heart.”
American Songwriter wondered if Luke plans to release “a whole album of tearjerkers” about fatherhood. It all began on December 30, 2023, when Luke celebrated the New Year by sharing his new, as yet unreleased song called “Plant a Seed.”
Luke uploaded a video of him wearing a light blue hoodie and red Whitetail ball cap, sitting on what looks like the living room floor before he started playing his guitar and singing the original tune. In the comments, Luke explained that he “got sent this song a while back from Wyatt McCubbin” and that Wyatt wrote “Plant a Seed” with Rob Snyder and Jeff Hyde.
Luke admitted that the song was in his head the night before, and he “couldn’t sleep,” so he got up and “messed around with it for a few hours.” He wrote that he’d been singing the song to himself “all morning and as I watched the boys,” and then he decided to casually record it.
He finished by writing, “Hope y’all like it and sorry for all the dad songs.” Luke confessed, “That’s where I’m at these days, and I couldn’t be happier about it.” He also admitted, “A lot more songs to come soon.”
It turns out that Luke didn’t need to apologize because “Plant a Seed” received almost 266,000 likes. Many fans also commented that they loved watching Luke’s dog sitting on a couch in the background, with one fan writing, “That dog has been through your journey… respect.”
