TMZ reports that Mama June is taking over parenting duties for one of her grandkids.
Family sources told the outlet that June currently has custody of Kaitlyn, the 11-year-old daughter of Anna ‘Chickadee’ Cardwell. Anna passed away last Saturday after a battle with cancer, leaving behind two daughters with two different dads.
TMZ’s sources reported that her other daughter, Kylee, is now living with her biological father, Michael. The outlet was told that the family had already put a plan in place for the eight-year-old Kylee to move in with her dad if something happened to Anna.
Kaitlyn Is Mama June’s First Grandchild
Mama June’s late daughter was diagnosed with her illness back in January. TMZ reported that Kaitlyn and June have a very close bond, as Kaitlyn is June’s first grandchild.
And that the family were all in agreement that moving Kaitlyn in with June would be the best situation for her. It was also reported that June was going to take the next step with plans to become Kaitlyn’s legal guardian.
A couple of months after her diagnosis, Anna secretly married her partner, Eldridge Toney, in March. Eldridge reportedly has a very close relationship with both of Anna’s daughters, though he is not the biological father of either.
TMZ has claimed that he will continue to be in both their lives, and that Kaitlyn and Kylee will continue to see each other. Back in February, about a month after Anna’s diagnosis, TMZ reported that June was putting in the work to help her daughter, and that they were trying to mend their relationship after becoming distant in recent years.
Anna and Mama June Recently Worked On Their Relationship
Family sources said both women were already slowly working on building back their relationship, but that Anna’s news had rapidly brought the pair closer again. Anna had spoken out in 2021 to The Sun about cutting ties with June.
She said that she started to distance herself from her mom when June became involved with Mark McDaniel. But after finding out about Anna’s illness, it was reported that June immediately knew that she had to be there for her daughter.
Sources stated that June would go with Anna to her appointments and be part of her support system. Anna was also present for June’s wedding to Justin Stroud.

In May, Anna posted in celebration of her daughter Kaitlyn after her elementary school graduation. Along with a series of photos of her and her kids, Anna wrote that she was one proud mama. Anna’s memorial service will reportedly take place this week, with her family agreeing to split her remains amongst her relatives.
TMZ wrote that they had been told that there had been talk about making special jewelry or crystals with Anna’s ashes inside. It was also claimed that the family was considering getting tattoos of Anna’s fingerprint, and planning to get a memorial bench in her honor.

The news of her passing was shared by June on social media, where she emotionally shared that Anna transitioned while surrounded by her family.
