Mama June Shannon has attempted to set the record straight about her latest family drama. In recent interviews, she addressed the accusations that she stole thousands of dollars from her daughter, Alana Thompson.
According to Entertainment Tonight, June has denied stealing any money from Alana’s Coogan account on the latest season of Mama June: Family Crisis. She’s still sticking to her story and recently told the outlet that she never stole anything.
June claimed that even though her daughter believed there should have been six figures in her Coogan account, that was never the case. She added that the only money being questioned was what Alana had earned from Dancing With the Stars in 2018.
June explained that Alana made $60,000 from the show, but after taxes, she was actually given around $35,000. She said she put 20 percent of the money into Alana’s account. This is what she was allegedly told to do by financial advisors.
Mama June revealed that the other money she put into the account was what she and Alana earned during their 2019 appearance on The Masked Singer. In an episode of Family Crisis from March, Alana and her sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird were shocked to find only $33,000 in the Coogan account.
Despite being confronted by her daughters about why the numbers didn’t add up, June denied doing anything wrong. When she spoke to Entertainment Tonight, she claimed that everyone would see the truth on the season six finale episode.
However, when the season finale aired on April 12th, that’s not exactly what happened. According to People Magazine, once Alana turned 18, she realized just how much their mom had taken from the account.
Mama June “Reinvested” the Money in Alana
Pumpkin obtained copies of all of the tax forms, contracts, and bank statements from Alana’s earnings and her account. It turns out that June had reportedly lied about how much money Alana made from Dancing With the Stars. Apparently, $35,000 was missing.
June eventually admitted that she spent the money, but refused to pay any of it back to Alana. During a recent interview with the Daily Mail, she tried to clear her name by responding to the criticism she’s received.
June explained that she used the $35,000 to allegedly pay for Alana and herself to stay in California while Dancing With the Stars was being filmed. She said that a lot of the money went towards getting Alana’s nails and lashes done for the show.
June also mentioned that she didn’t have much money, so she spent some of Alana’s earnings on supporting the family. But she maintained that whatever money she spent had been used to “reinvest” in Alana.
June claimed that she only spent $30,000 from her daughter’s account. In her opinion, that is “not a lot of money.” She said that she legally shouldn’t have to pay any of that back. June added that Alana isn’t broke anyway, because she supposedly has “over $200,000.”
June definitely wasn’t seeing eye-to-eye with her daughters in the season finale. She has continued to defend her very questionable actions. We’ll have to wait and see if they’re able to resolve the issue, or if Alana will end up taking June to court.
