Nelly is not okay, and it looks like not even his own fans are feeling sorry for him. Instead, everyone is talking about how bad they feel for Ashanti after her new husband’s latest series of embarrassing scandals.
In June, Complex reported that he clapped back during an Instagram Live after someone posted a shady comment claiming he was drunk.
The commenter went on to express pity for his wife. They wrote, “Poor Ashanti. He ghetto, coming on Live doing this. Shame on you.” It was pretty clear that the commenter, like so many others, thought Ashanti was too good for Nelly.
The rapper addressed the comment while laughing, before talking about how important Ashanti was to him. He said that Ashanti encourages his happiness, and he encourages hers, which is why they are together. He ended his retort by saying, “So you ain’t gotta ‘poor her,’ it might be ‘poor you.’”
Despite Nelly’s defense of their relationship, the negative feedback hasn’t stopped flooding in. Online forums are right now filled with fans criticizing Nelly for his irresponsible behavior, and some of the things they’ve said have been pretty brutal.
One commenter described Nelly as a “degenerate” who no one could defend anymore. They doubled down by writing, “Nelly is a terrible person but for some reason, people” continued to support him. Despite what that fan said, it looks like the number of people sticking up for the rapper is dwindling rapidly.
Nelly Was Recently Arrested
As well as his recent embarrassing display on Instagram Live, Nelly also caused a headache for Ashanti after getting arrested shortly after they welcomed their baby. He was arrested just outside St. Louis after allegedly winning big at the nearby Hollywood Casino.
According to The Shade Room, the rapper was taken into custody just before 5 am on August 7. He was reportedly charged with possession of illegal substances after being pulled over by police. He was also alleged to be facing trouble for having no insurance.
In a statement, the police said they arrested him for Failure to Appear on an old traffic charge. He has since been released, and a representative for the 49-year-old has made a statement in his defense.
His attorney, Scott Rosenblum, denied the charge against his client. He said that the rapper had not actually been charged with anything to do with substance possession, but instead for having no proof of insurance. He added that Nelly had been targeted by “an overzealous, out-of-line officer.”
Despite his lawyer’s statement, many are still convinced that illegal substances were involved in Nelly’s recent brush with the law. The Sun reported that the rapper appeared to be glassy-eyed in his police mug shot, during which he was also slightly smiling, suggesting he was in some way intoxicated. To many, it seems ridiculous that even after reaching 50 years of age, Nelly was still getting himself into these kinds of problems.
Ashanti’s Mom Is Fighting with Nelly
Lately, it looks like even Ashanti might be getting sick of his antics. The singer shared a post the very same day that Nelly was arrested which got fans talking. She was celebrating a special night with her mom, for which she shared a series of pictures on Instagram.
In the caption, she wrote, “Recap Mom’s bday! This was such a special night. Happy Birthday again mom, I love you more than anything.”
The weird thing was that the post came several weeks after her mom’s birthday, so fans were curious about the timing. Was Ashanti trying to create some distance between her family and the news of Nelly’s arrest? Considering Ashanti’s mom has had her own problems with Nelly in the past, Ashanti’s post made it seem like the singer had taken sides against her husband.

Nelly’s Relationship May Be a PR Move
Although the reports were never confirmed, Ashanti’s supposed reaction to Nelly’s recent arrest might spark a further divide within the family. If this is the case, it looks like a lot of fans will totally understand Ashanti’s reaction.
The rapper has not seemed okay for quite a while, and his recent surprise marriage to Ashanti only briefly made people forget everything else he’s been up to in the last few years. The worry among fans is that Nelly only got back together with Ashanti for the sake of his public image.
Just a year before he got back together with Ashanti, he became the subject of ridicule after an intimate video of him was leaked online. What made things even worse for him was that he actually leaked it himself by accident.
