All it took to get fans riled up with rumors of retirement was for Rihanna to step out with A$AP Rocky on a sunny day in NYC.
Earlier this month, Lainey Gossip reported that Rihanna stepped out wearing a tee shirt dress with the phrase “I’m Retired (and this is as dressed up as I get.)” Following the incident, Rihanna sparked a whole debate on whether or not she’d be producing any more music.

Is Rihanna actually about to call it quits on her musical career? Here’s what we can say for sure:
Nope. She’s Not Retiring Yet.
According to Vibe, Rihanna has already set people straight on her musical plans for the future, stating: “That was just me looking into the future. I’m not retired. I just like that dress.”
“I got it as a gift and I loved it. They didn’t read the second line. I’m not retired, I’m just retired from dressing up — it’s a lot of effort.”

Although Rihanna has no plans for retirement just yet, she is looking to reboot her approach to music. In her words: “I don’t wanna neglect the songs that I have. So I wanna go back and listen to stuff with new ears with my new perspective and see what applies and what I still am in love with.”
Vibe reported Rihanna joking about how long her latest album has taken her to put together. She said “[Fenty Hair] is probably the longest I’ve ever taken to create something. No, I lied — that’s R9.”
Rihanna Is Starting Over
Rihanna mentioned how this album has been “a new discovery” for her and that she’s been collaborating very closely with A$AP on it. Hollywood Reporter covered her saying: “I already got stuff that I feel like I can make hits out of. Yeah, really […] Me and Rocky are really trying to figure out who is going to use what because it’s so good.
I think that music, for me, is a new discovery. I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start — give me a second!”

According to Hollywood Reporter, she also joked about people getting triggered over her “I’m retired” tee. She said “People got triggered with that retired word.”
“They were like, ‘We’re never getting an album now.’ No one read the other line, it was something about, ‘This is as dressed up as I get.'”
How Long Has It Been Since Rihanna Released Music?
It’s been a minute since Rihanna’s last full-length album dropped. She released “Anti” all the way back in 2016, after all. Her many businesses have taken up a lot of her time since then, not to mention her family life.
Outside of her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show performance and a contribution to the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack one year before, she hasn’t been super active in the music space.
But, Marie Claire reports her reassuring her fans that “Clearly I’m here, clocked in.”
