Ryan Edwards from Teen Mom is demanding split custody of his two youngest kids. The U.S. Sun has obtained court documents connected to Ryan’s divorce from his ex, Mackenzie Edwards. Ryan reportedly made this filing on March 6th, 2024.
This is already the second time the two have attempted to get a divorce. In February 2023, Mackenzie filed for divorce from Ryan.
The case was dismissed a year later, in February 2024. The reason for this was that there were no filings in the case for 270 days.
Ryan was the one who initiated their second attempt at getting divorced. According to the court documents obtained by The Sun, he wants 50/50 custody of his and Mackenzie’s kids.
Ryan and Mackenzie share two kids, Jagger and Stella, who are five and four years old. Both of the parents also have kids from previous relationships.
Ryan is the father of 15-year-old Bentley, who he shares with Maci Bookout from Teen Mom. Mackenzie has a 10-year-old son, Hudson, with her ex-husband, Zachary Stephens.
But, according to the court documents obtained by the Sun, Ryan isn’t just demanding split custody of Jagger and Stella in the divorce filing. He is also asking to be made the primary residential parent of the two kids. In addition, he also wants the court to order Mackenzie to pay child support to him.
For the past year, it was Mackenzie who had temporary custody of the kids. The U.S. Sun obtained the court documents from her February 2023 divorce filing as well.
Mackenzie Was Worried About the Kids’ Safety
According to these documents, Mackenzie asked to be made the primary residential parent of the kids. She also filed for a temporary restraining order against Ryan, so that he couldn’t take the kids from her care or from school or daycare. She was granted the restraining order, as well as temporary full custody of the kids.
In the filing, she accused Ryan of criminal and threatening behavior, which she put forward as one of the reasons why she should be granted the restraining order. She also pointed out his history with substances and his criminal history. She said that she was worried about the kids’ safety and well-being when they were around him.
Ryan spent part of last year in prison after he was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days behind bars in April 2023. The U.S. Sun reported his sentencing at the time.
According to the report, he was sent to prison for a total of four charges. He was released early, on December 23rd, 2023, as reported by The Sun at the time.
In the new filing for his divorce, Ryan states that he’s never been convicted of a felony before. He brings this up as a reason why he should be made the primary residential parent of his two kids with Mackenzie.
Also according to the newest court documents, neither he nor Mackenzie are allowed to relocate their kids out of state or more than 50 miles from their marital home. At least not without permission from the court or from the other parent. They’re also not allowed to destroy or hide any electronically stored evidence relating to the case or get rid of property until the divorce is complete.
