The spotlight is blazing on Usher, but not in the way he’d hoped. The seasoned R&B star has been slapped with a jaw-dropping $20 million lawsuit by one Laura Helm. Laura accused Usher of infecting her with herpes.
This single accusation opened Pandora’s box of scandal. Another man stepped forward with similar claims, saying he met Usher at a Koreatown spa. The result of their intimate encounter was herpes.
As if that wasn’t enough to make Usher stop his herpes-spreading spree, yet another woman emerged, accusing him of infecting her too. Tragically, she claims this led to a stillbirth of her twins.
Usher’s Mother Could Not Stay Silent
With Usher’s name being dragged through the mud for months, his mother, Jonetta Patton, couldn’t stay silent any longer. Jonetta, who managed Usher’s career until 2007, took to Instagram in a heartfelt post, making it clear she was not happy with the situation.
She wrote, “If I were IN CHARGE this USHER drama would never have gone down…too much positive work went into making this MEGA STAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!……..I can’t stand by and watch this!!! I apologize to each and everyone of you!!!!!!!……too much for me!!!!!!!!!”.
She also added, “Thank you all for your words of wisdom, encouragement, and prayers yesterday! I am a believer and I have faith in God that he shall have the victory.”
Jonetta was her son’s manager until 2007 when he married Tameka Foster much to his mother’s disapproval. Jonetta refused to even attend the wedding. It seems she was relieved when Usher and Tameka’s marriage ended two years later.
Usher remarried in 2015 to Grace Miguel, but even that didn’t shield him from these relentless herpes scandals and accusations of infidelity. Jonetta’s Instagram post said it all—she wasn’t proud of her son’s negative publicity. Her words were full of pain and disappointment regarding the turmoil Usher’s life has spiraled into.
