Good news for Wendy Williams fans! At a holistic health store in New Jersey, Wendy Williams was seen for the first time in more than a year just a few weeks ago.
A worker at Bolingo Balance in Newark told Page Six that the former “Wendy Williams Show” star and her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., went to the store in late August of this year. The shop is run by the late Dr. Sebi’s son Victor Bowman.
Wendy was “very bubbly” and “sharp, upbeat, and aware” during the visit, according to Page Six’s sources. She even met with Bowman to talk about the health products they were featuring. The famous 60-year-old gossip and news queen was “engaging but wasn’t as familiar with what we do here, so her son was more explaining things,” the worker told Page Six.
“She talked about circulation improvement but didn’t want to get into too much detail on their first meeting and plans to come back in the near future,” the source continued.
The worker told Page Six that Bowman gave Wendy a number of health-related items and supplements as a gift, including supplements containing iron-rich plants like sarsaparilla, contribo, and bottano oil.
Bowman even shared a photo of himself and Wendy on his Facebook page.
What Happened To Wendy Williams?
While it’s lovely to see the gossip show star out and about after her diagnosis, the reality of her health is still a painful thing to think about for fans of Wendy.
Back in February of 2024, Wendy’s team released an announcement that she had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia. Since the announcement, Wendy has retreated from the public eye for the most part. Wendy was diagnosed in 2023 after a number of medical tests before the announcement earlier this year.
Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a type of dementia in which the neurons of the brain have been damaged, particularly to the frontal as well as the temporal lobes of the brain. There are a number of symptoms that can arise from the disease, including strange behaviors, problems with emotional regulation, communication difficulties, an inability to perform one’s job duties, and even motor skill issues that can make walking difficult.
Aphasia is often a symptom of FTD. Aphasia is a type of language disorder in which one’s ability to “understand and express language” becomes very difficult. Many people suffering from aphasia lose their ability to read and write. It is caused by brain damage, specifically to the left side of the brain when language is processed.
Wendy isn’t the only celeb to suffer from FTD. Actor Bruce Willis was also diagnosed with it back in early 2023. FTD typically affects people over the age of 45 years old.
It’s very unfortunate, considering the degenerative nature of the disease and its surprising rarity. There is no cure for FTD, and scientists and doctors alike still do not know what causes the illness. Around 25% of patients with FTD likely have genetic mutations, and it’s unclear whether or not the disease is preventable.
We wish Wendy nothing but the best as she recovers and hope we’ll see her out and about enjoying life even more.
