Did Valerie Bertinelli just get remarried for the third time? The answer is no, but Valerie just went public with her new boyfriend. It seems as if no one is more shocked about falling in love again than Valerie is!
Valerie’s new boyfriend seems equally shocked. He’s written a revealing essay about their unexpected love story like he couldn’t believe it either.
Page Six updated a report about him on April 18th. His name is Mike Goodnough, and the article claimed that Mike is gushing over his “good” relationship with Valerie and saying, “I’m so glad we’re together.” Mike is allegedly a photographer and describes himself as an “East Coast Writer” on his Substack page called “Hoarse Whisperings.”
Last week, Mike published a deeply personal essay on Substack with the teaser title, “Rumors, Rumors, Rumors.” It took several long paragraphs to make his reveal. Mike began by admitting, “I think I’ve slept in my own bed a grand total of four nights.”
He called the previous month a “wild pendulum” swinging between “terrible and terrific.” Then, Mike finally began to drop the bombshell when he said he had “a few quick items to cover.”
Mike wrote, “There is apparently a rumor circulating alleging that Valerie Bertinelli and I are romantically involved somehow… that we are dating or are a couple even.” Before he came right out with it, Mike did “gush” about Valerie’s starring roles on “One Day at a Time” and the hilarious “Hot in Cleveland” with the late, great Betty White.

He mentioned that Valerie has won two Emmys and two Golden Glove Awards and previously hosted a popular cooking show for fourteen seasons. Additionally, Valerie has written six books, one of which was a #1 New York Times bestseller.
After rhyming off Valerie’s impressive accomplishments, Mike finally confessed he was her boyfriend. Mike called it “surreal” but said, “It’s true,” and “It just seems good… lucky… a gift.”
Obviously, all of Valerie’s fans and followers are wondering where she met this guy. Mike mentioned another “rumor” about them running into each other by chance at a “Panera Bread in New Jersey.”

According to Page Six, Mike “promised” to reveal his meet-cute with Valerie “on his Substack page next week.” However, Mike might be a few steps behind his new lady because another Page Six report claims Valerie has already admitted they “met on Instagram.”
If this sounds crazy good, Mike agrees with you. He wrote on Substack, “Life is crazy, kids.” He added, “It’ll rain hellfire down on you for years,” but then, “It’ll open the skies to deep blue and love and calling someone ‘Honey’ because you just love the absolute hell out of her.”
According to Mike’s Substack essay, “celebrity gossip outlets including Closer, Radar Online, and apparently the National Enquirer, all ran stories” on April 16th, calling him Valerie’s “mysterious new love interest.” The real truth is that Mike was revealed as Valerie’s “mystery boyfriend” a lot earlier in the month.
Valerie Hid Her Boyfriend in Plain Sight
On April 3rd, paparazzi photos showed Valerie and Mike leaving a New York City studio after her appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” Valerie shared the photo on social media with a cheeky caption that she and Mike were “hiding in plain sight.”
Mike also mentioned his “girlfriend” in a Substack essay he posted six days later. He wrote, “On stage right in front of me, my girlfriend was funny and warm and affable.” He sounded proud of Valerie when he added, “She had the crowd leaning in and laughing aloud.”
People.com reported that Valerie celebrated her 64th birthday on April 23rd. Of course, Mike wanted to make it memorable, and People confirmed that he honored his lady love with a “cheeky photo” and “special backstory” on social media.

The photo was a shot of Valerie on the red carpet at the 2024 Oscars. She looked adorable, her tongue sticking out in jest, and Mike added “Happy Birthday” in a “bold font.”
As it turns out, that photo was another earlier clue that Valerie and Mike were dating. She posted it on March 12th and claimed, “I [expletive] love my life right now. Not something I ever thought I’d say two years ago.”
Valerie recently confessed to People.com that she’s in love. She further explained, “It’s a seesaw of emotions” because she was firmly convinced that she would never fall in love again.
On social media, Valerie thanked her fans and followers “for staying on this ride with me.” It does sound like Valerie and Mike have been on a wild ride, and we all hope it never ends for this cute pair!
