Mady, her sister Cara and the rest of the Gosselin children were front and center during the airing of their big family’s reality show, but now they seem to be taking a backseat to their mother Kate in public.
Are they afraid to speak out against Kate or are they just kids being kids when the camera is rolling?
Here’s what we know:
Kate Gosselin Reassured Her Children Are Doing Well
After a tumultuous time on air with her large family and now ex-husband during the original airing period for “Jon & Kate + Eight”, Kate has had to reassure the public that her children are in fact doing well.
But, their public appearances and interviews have mostly made fans suspect that she’s telling her kids to bite their lips. During an interview on TODAY, she stated:
“They get really frustrated that people assume certain things in our house and they always say, ‘But that’s not how it is, mommy. Why do they say that about us?’ They’re just really regular, everyday, awesome teenagers.”
Mady And Cara’s Stunned Silence And Awkward Glances
Not everyone was convinced by this positive statement, though. Especially considering how quiet her twin daughters Cara and Mady were during the interview. They offered nothing but stunned silence and awkward glances at Kate whenever questions were directed at them.
Fans have been wondering whether or not Mady and Cara are afraid to call out their mother’s behavior or if they’re just a bit camera shy after so many years spent off-screen.
Mady And Cara Speak Out
To her credit, Kate did seem to encourage Mady and Cara to voice their opinions during the interview, but they didn’t have much to say about things. According to TODAY, Kate stated: “It’s your chance, spit it out. […]
This is the most wordless I’ve heard them all morning. I don’t want to speak for them but, Mady, go ahead.
Sort of the things that you said in (People) magazine, that years later they’re good, they’re fine. Go for it, it’s your chance.”
Mady had nothing to add, though, simply stating: “No. You just said it.”
She did later mention that being on their TV show helped them rather than hurt them.
Jon Gosselin Concerned About Their Children Developmentally
Their dad, Jon, though not present at the interview, has expressed his issues with Kate’s parenting. According to Fox News, he said:
“I saw my kids not growing up normally, like I grew up, and having community.
Yes, they got to travel the world, and yes, they got these fabulous things, and yes, they have trust funds, and they’re taken care of educationally. Great.
But developmentally, they have problems with their peers, and they have problems with talking to other people, and they have problems with wants and needs and manners and morals and what’s right and what’s wrong. I think more so than someone who grows up off TV.”
‘People Expect Us To Be Damaged …’
Cara and Mady were reported by CNN to have said that they were better than ever after the TV show. They stated:
“People expect us to be damaged. […] [they] think we’re supposed to be so messed up, like, ‘Ooh, the poor Gosselin kids, they’re going to be scarred for life, waaaaah.’ Here’s the big news: We’re not messed up.
It’s so false. We’re fine. We’re better than ever, actually.”
