Zach Bryan announced on X to his fans that he had officially earned his Bachelor’s degree — and fulfilled one of his late mother’s wishes in the process.

In the post, he revealed to his fans that he had gotten his degree on December 17th, 2023. He had promised his mom a long time ago that he would do that for her.

Despite his mother’s passing, Zach still made good on his promise and passed the required exams to earn his degree. Due to Zach’s touring, he wasn’t able to attend college like other students.

He hinted at how different college life was for him in his post. He shared that he had taken his exams in the desert, while in green rooms, and before concerts. Finally, he said he had attended college while also passing through hundreds of venues.

Zach Joined the Navy When He Was 17

Zach did not disclose what college he attended or what degree he had received his Bachelor’s in. He finished off his post by saying it was going to be a good week. He initially decided not to attend college to follow in his father’s footsteps. Zach’s father, Dewayne, served in the Navy. It was why Zach was born in Okinawa, Japan, despite later being raised in Oklahoma.

Zach also joined the Navy when he was 17 years old. His Navy career ran for eight years. While he served in the Navy, Zach used the opportunity to work on writing music. At that point, he primarily made music for his own enjoyment rather than looking to perform for others.

After gaining a following for his music, he was honorably discharged from the military, and he was able to start focusing on being an artist full-time.

Zach stated in an Instagram post that the Navy honorably discharged him, so he could pursue music and attend the “Ain’t for Tamin’” tour. He also stated in the post that it hadn’t been his decision to leave the Navy, and he’d happily keep serving in the world’s greatest Navy.

Zach’s Mom Has Inspired Many of His Songs

Zach’s mother has been a muse for him, inspiring many of his songs. He even considers his mother the reason why he became involved with music in the first place. Although he only seriously started writing and performing music in 2017, he has been writing songs since the age of 14.

It was in 2017, however, that his friends started to record him performing some of the songs he had written. The friends uploaded the performances to YouTube, and Zach quickly began to attract a large fanbase.

In 2019, Zach released his debut album, which he had called DeAnn after his mother. The album was dedicated to her.

It only took two months to write the entire album. Zach and his friends recorded the songs in an Airbnb rental in Florida. He rose to fame and earned a few awards as an up-and-coming country star. At the Billboard Music Awards in 2023, he won Top New Artist and Top Rock Artist. Also, in 2023 at the Academy of Country Music Awards, Zach won New Male Artist of the Year.

Zach continues to try and make his mother proud by upholding the promises he made her years ago.
